i'd figured it would go with both (not necessarily at the same time lol), as well as shades of gray, but now that i think about it, i'm not so sure. any input would be mucho appreciated

I'm not so sure about olive and grey - it would depend on the undertones in the grey - but definitely you can pair olive with either black or brown, I do both all the time. It's better with cooler browns, I think, not anything too close to terracotta or copper.
