Everyone does it a little different, but I can never get it right. How do you cook a Baked Potato? Oven, Microwave, Grill, pierce or no? Foil? What do you do?
When I cook it in the microwave I poke a few holes in the top w/ a fork and put it on a microwaveable plate.
My dad will do them on the grill and he rolls them in the really big kosher salt wraps foil aroudn then and grills them for a little bit. I couldn't tell you how long he does it.

Well right now I am just doing like everyone else - poking a few holes and microwaving them on sensor cook setting. I don't think my new apt will have a fancy microwave like my parents do so I will probably be needing help on this too! My mom's wrapped them in foil and thrown them in the oven before but I don't know how long she bakes them for. I'll ask in a few and post later.
My microwave has a button marked "potato". Press it once for one potato, twice for two potatoes. I don't even know how long it cooks. I guess I should hope I never get a microwave w/out the Potato Button. I'll be lost!
I'm pretty hardcore when it comes to cooking, so I never use the microwave except for reheating. I wrap it in foil and bake it in the oven for about 1 - 1 1/2 hours at around 350. poke with a fork to check for tenderness. I know it's a long time, but it's worth it :) it tastes better than when mickied IMO
I agree that an oven baked potato is far better, but I don't ever take the time to do it. I'm a microwave girl when it comes to potatoes. And yes, poke holes. I find that if I flip the potato halfway through the microwave cycle it turns out better. Sometimes one side gets goofy... I use the potato setting too, so I just guess. I'm not at all scientific when it comes to cooking.
My grocery store has started carrying pre-washed and wrapped potatoes for the microwave. You just toss them in the microwave and cook them per the instructions on the package. My lazy ass loves them.
