I realize cameras don't belong in this forum, but help me out here. I have digital point and shoot and I have went back and forth in my head for 3 months or so on purchasing an SLR, or a camera that is a step up from just a regular digi.
I am debating these two. Let me know if you ladies have any experience with these or can offer any advice. My max price is $650. If possible I would want to order it through QVC so you can break it up into payments, which will make it ok in my head if I don't yank $650 in one shot from my checking account
I have a the Canon Rebel xSi and I really like it. I've used Nikons before, too. If you've never used a DSLR, I'd recommend the Canon because I've heard they are a little more user-friendly for a novice than Nikons. Both are good cameras, so you can't really make a bad purchase here.
On a side note, are you planning on really getting into photography and using all of the manual settings of DSLR? Or are you just looking for higher quality photos? If it's the latter, there are some really good point and shoots out there that aren't quite as expensive, but you can still get really good photos with them.

I actually eventually really want to explore photography... My Dad even through his battle with cancer still enjoyed photography... I walk around New Haven, Yale Campus, and my area in general and keep saying I want to invest in another camera, I think I would get a lot of use of it as he did.
I have a Canon and a Nikon SLR and like the Canon much, much better. That said, I'm in a photography club and the club is split between Canon/Nikon. So, essentially agree with Kenzie, you can't go wrong with either.

Thanks!!! I will decide by Thursday..
Anyone else have input please chime in!!! Its going to my birthday present to myself.
i just got my canon rebel XSi for christmas and i love it! it has so many features that i haven't figured out yet, but i've been slowly learning. i got this particular model because my SIL uses the same one for her work in wedding photography and she says canons are the best. HTH!
ETA: this camera has a Full Auto mode, which makes it as easy as a point and shoot, great for when you're just starting out.
