shopping ban no-no
Permalink Closed

so i made a deal with the BF to do a shopping ban for 2 months.  trouble is- when i travel for work, i go to the mall to pass time and there are a lot of great sales right now....

and i sort bought a couple of shirts... but for only $20 and i bought the BF two shirts too...

so i broke the ban... 6 days into it.  and i feel guilty.  should i return the shirts?  or should i just give up???

I feel like you should probably return everything.  This will help you to convince yourself that you are really taking this seriously.  I know if I was on a ban, once I broke it, I would keep breaking it.  I don't know about you...

Ooooh, I cannot believe I am saying this, but I think you should return them.  Like AJ said, returning the items will strengthen your commitment to the ban.  So sorry!

Return them!  If you can't control yourself in a mall, you shouldn't be going when your on your ban!  I still haven't bought anything since July 1st.  Today was my day off, I usually go browsing or something (and end up buying) so I just stayed home and relaxed.  Yes, I was a little bored, but money wasn't spent on stuff I didn't need!

WOW, that's good Courtney; I haven't brought anything (clothes/shoes/jewelry) since June 26th - I'm REALLY having some w/drawal symptoms........ LOL But I'll be strong. I always TRY to stay away from shopping malls/centers, and IF I happen to be in that area, I'll purposely leave my wallet in the car. I'm NOT gonna want to walk all the way back to my car, then back to the store.....LOL

I know it's hard but I think you have to return everything. How else are you going to stay on the ban? Aren't you glad you're on a shopping ban and not a strict diet? You can't take back that piece of pizza you had the other night, can you? (and by you I mean me)

As hard as it sounds, return them bex.  Like everyone else said, it'll show your commitment to the ban.  I haven't shopped since June 25 & it feels great.  The mall near me is having a sidewalk sale this weekend & the girls @ my favorite boutique said that a TON of stuff is going to be marked down.  Big challenge, but I can resist.

Hang in there!

oops!  too late girls!  i already wore them today!!!  and the BF's shirts he is paying me back for.  so those don't count against my ban.  just the two shirts I bought for myself at $10 each.

the hardest thing about being on this ban is the fact that i travel ALL the time for work and i always cruise the area malls b/c there is really nothing else interesting to do when you travel for work and don't know the areas.  I have 2 other friends who also travel for work and have told me that they get in the worst trouble b/c of this.

however, i am completely committed to finishing out the ban.  i am now taking out CASH on a weekly allowance from the ATM and once that money is gone- its gone.  i can't get it back...

I didn't know what your rules are - I personally am giving myself $20 a week for misc items, so if I don't spend them on lunch or fast food or whatever I can spend it on clothes - I passed up a $13 crochet shrug that I LOVE - if I don't spend my money over the weekend, I'm going back to get it!!!! That way you are limiting to something small instead of going cold turkey - I think for me it's still better than spending $70 a pop at a store.....

But just because I didn't get my shrug, I'm fussing at you!!! BAD BEX, BAD BEX

LOL!  this made me laugh.  don't get me wrong- i am taking this seriously- and if i follow it, i'll pay off my personal CC next month.  I just need to be strong.

my rules are this:

  • no clothes

  • no make-up (unless replinishing something that ran out)

  • no cds

  • no shoes

  • no accessories

  • no ebay!

and i get $100 a week for w/e.  w/e includes toileteries, going to the movies with the BF, out to dinner or drinks with friends, etc.  so i get a montly allowance of $400.  basically as my bills come in, I pay them online and other than that my check card is used for nothing else except to get my allowance out of the ATM.

this is super hard for me b/c coming up i have:

  • a business trip to chicago and we are staying on the "magnificent mile"

  • my BFs 30th b-day party where i am the hostess and this hostess will be wearing an old dress!
