I will be boldly opinionated and say I don't like the pink at all. More specifically I don't like the alternating pink/white of the message lists. I hate when I post images and my post is even-numbered so it becomes pink. I always go "meh, I got a pink one."
I would be in favor of something black/white or whatever...for the sole reason that something more neutral and "corporate" would be easier to pass off as work. The pink screams "NOT work related" to anyone passing by my space. (Since I only work in my office 1-2 days a week I now share an office, which bites.)
The brown...I agree, I don't really notice it.
Maybe it would be helpful if people posted links to sites they like. This site is so much more "designed" than other forums I've seen, I don't really know what to suggest except to say what I like and don't like.

Your whole post cracked me up! The work comment is hilarious (but true).

lol on the pink post -- I've experienced that too :)
it's not the forum so much that I'm exploring different colorways with -- it's the logo and graphic treatment for the entire site.
heck - I can go in and tweak the forum colors right now.

Su - I left some pink type. I want to know your opinion about the office freindliness of the forum colors now including the pink type.

I like when the messages are alternating pink/white. I don't care about those colors specifically but I think it's easier to digest when I can clearly see where one message ends and the next begins. Yeah I know there are lines separating them, but something about having different colors too seemed nice.
Of course I have no idea how to have colors and have it be work "appropriate" either. Is there any way to have alternating bold outlines or something?

my bedroom suite is decorated pink and brown from Resoration Hardware and hmm, that was about four years ago. I was just thinking it looked dated within the past few months, thanks for the reminder.. too bad I can't afford the makeover right now!
I'm in favor of changing the colors here! Don't have any suggestions, though I'm a jeweltones fan.

I don't get an oudated feeling from the colors. They signal Stylethread to me.
The beige separates the pink from the brown, which neutralizes the feeling I get when I see (and have seen) pink and brown used together.
That color combo--when it first became popular--was exciting for people because it was an unconventional pairing. Since the combination has been around for a while, it is no longer unconventional, and some see it as played. Having the beige (esp in the graphic at the top of the page), and the fact that the typeface and style is more modern --not wedding-invitation-like, allows us to get more mileage out of the color combo.
Will pink & brown last us for 30 years? Probably not, but making too neutral of a change or too trendy of a change is not the best action either.

well said. I am striving to find that happy medium.

I wanted to say even when Stylethread is slow I always come back because it's the easiest to read. I know of "other" forums that are way more active, but I don't participate because the colors and format are garish. I think this is one of the most eye-friendly sites out there. I say even if you change the colors keep the soft tones/shades and keep the color scheme predominantly white, like it is now.
What about the current pink, grey, white, black and a little bit of a medium pink? It would be very similar to what we currently have, just a bit more updated by swapping out the brown for the grey.
To me, the current color scheme seems a little "young," but I hadn't really thought of it until now. I think updating the color scheme to something sleeker and a bit more modern woudn't hurt. It'd feel like ST was maturing (subtly) along with its users.

This is the direction I'm leaning toward. Only I'm thinking more pink and gray and not combined. Subtle, and leaving the color primarily to the logo only and not graphic elements.

I like that idea too. You could keep the alternating color idea for the people who find it helps readability, but it would be gray and white for us office drones. The pink makes a good accent color.
