Help!!!  I need something to wear to sorority orientation and I want to look comfy, but cute.  I don't want to look like I'm going to the club, or trying too hard.  And keep in mind, I'm a poor college student

Jeans, cami and shrug or sweater if needed, are good old standbys.

I would buy a new cute top at old navy or somewhere cheap, I always feel better having a new cute item to wear to something like that. If you feel cuter you will look better. Sorioirties, in my experience can be very fashion showish (not ment in a bad way at all. Just seems like a lot of the girls have really nice things or taste.) So someting new and a little trendy but basic would be your best bet. You can always dress up a basic outfit with some cute turquoise/coral/wooden jewlrey.  Just a few ideas. HTH

I'd wear something simple but that shows my personal style.  For example:
daisy day blouseclick for details
Is this like an open house for recruitment?  I think throughout the process, the main thing is to look neat and well-groomed.  Wear something that flatters you and doesn't draw attention away from YOU!  I would be stylish but not too trendy, and definitley not fussy.  Good luck and have fun!

Oh man! Your post just made me realize that I started posting on Lucky (then FH, now stylethread though I usually just read here now) way back when I was going through sorority orientation! Yikes! I feel so old! (I'm working at a magazine now in NY... real life.. eeks.)

Anyhow, everyone was right. I think (in life in general) girls mostly dress for girls. Girls appreciate your outfits and your choices and pairings SO much better than most men, so it only makes sense that in a room full of 100s of women, they're all dressed up for each other! (Total cliche, but true). I agree something comfy but fresh and stylish. I can't tell you how hard it is after you've met 200 girls to remember each one at the end of the day. So one cool piece would be great - funky pants, a cool necklace, whatever your style is. Something to make someone say ... oh yeah, the girl with the really fun shoes. (Don't worry, it's Definitely not just about the shoes, but in the beginning its like being at a bar. Outfits are sometimes all you've got to go on to remember people by..) And I agree, keep the rest simple and as comfy as possible.

Have fun! It's what you make of it, but I met my best friends in mine. And they saw me in the same men's sweatpants from Walmart from October to March and still love me. :)
