Yesterday, my friends and I went to the beach and I stupidly did not put any sunblock on (yes, I am a total idiot).  We had been up all night and just went directly to the beach.  I slept on the beach all day and ended up with a horrible burn.  It is so painful.  When I woke up this morning, one of my eyes was swollen.  I am so red.  Is there anyway I can make this heal faster?  I am so embarrassed to go to work tomorrow.

first of all, make sure that you're guzzling water all day!  you're probably pretty dehydrated from all that sun.  also, take some advil every 4-6 hours- it's an anti-inflammatory and will help with the swelling/redness.  get some lotion with aloe and apply it as often as you can.  good luck- hopefully it will fade into a tan by tomorrow!

(by the way, i'm also burned right now- but only on my left shoulder!  i went to the beach yesterday and missed a spot as i was applying sunscreen.  i even have finger marks where i missed.  not cute!)

tsk, tsk, tsk... aloe vera is a must-either the plant or in a gel from a store. Try to refrain from using soap until you have to. Soap can remove the oils that help heal the burn and it can irritate your burn even more. Maybe you could take a bath in cool water and relax. Drink lots of water and over-the-counter painkillers. Also, don't drink any alcohol because the will dehydrate you and can make the burn worse.

Sorry about the burn. Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks, ladies!  I will drink plenty of water and take Advil.  I have some sunburn spray with Aloe that I sprayed on once but have been too big of a wimp to spray on again because it is so cold.

Ryan J, it was probably alcohol that led to this bad of a burn in the first place.  I was still drunk when I went to the beach.  I went directly down the shore at 1am after my date and everyone in the hotel room was still awake and we drank from like 3am to 10am and went directly to the beach.  Bad, bad, bad.

Yikes, a swollen eye?!  Didn't you wear sunglasses?  I would go to the eye doc to make sure you didn't damage anything.  You should get checked for skin cancer every year for now on too.

I just finished reading in a magazine that, "milk is the best thing for your skin when it's burned.  Pour equal amounts of milk and water into a bowl, throw in two ice cubes and apply with a face wash."  HTH
