How to wear this Vera Wang camisole?

I found this Vera Wang Lavendar Label camisole at a clothing swap, and I couldn't leave it behind. But I have no idea what to do with it. It's definitely a size or two too big but I don't want to spend the $$ to get it taken in if I can't figure out what to do with it! (Please ignore my ugly nude bra, I was getting ready for work when I decided to snap some pics)

Here's the deal: I'd really like to have something over my shoulders when I wear this. I don't know the last time I just wore spaghetti straps with no layers. Also, it's pretty sheer in the back so if I wore this on its own, I think I'd at least wear another cami under it because I think it looks weird to see my bra and waistband through it!

I tried a shrug like this but in white:

But it just seemed like SO MUCH was going on. Dots! Pleats! Ruffles! Buttons! the knot on the shrug!

All I can think of right now is to get it taken in, get the ruffle hacked off, and just wear it like any other cami. But I wanted to get opinions from you guys first before I do that, in case there is some great outfit I could make with this that I'm just not thinking of!

I wear cami with spagetti straps ( also own like....1 or 2, I usually don't wear things like that as an outwear, only to layer underneath, & those I own a lot, but as undergarments), anyway, I layer it on top of a white tank, it's a layered modern look. You can pair with with jeans & maybe a short fitted jacket.

The ruffle is the issue for me, not the size. I definitely think you can wear it under a blazer, even a denim jacket, or a plain tailored cardigan...but the ruffle is kind of odd.

Have you tried a wide stretchy belt around the middle? Tucked into a high-waisted skirt?

I'd go with a longer cardi, to help weigh down the ruffle at the hip, or a cardi that ends just above the ruffle - lavendar would be pretty with the navy in the cami.  And I second the blazer suggestion, too smile.gif.

A cropped blazer might be cool (H&M usually have some.) It'd show off the ruffle but also give you a waist.

I like the idea of the cami with white jeans and a navy piece on top (cardi, blazer...)

Thats exactly what I'd advise you to do.  The ruffles make it look awkward and make you look bigger.  I'd chop em off and get it tailored to your size.  Even if you spend $25 on tailoring, since you got it in a swap, thats nothing!  Orrrr since you are handy w sewing, why dont you do it yourself?

I'd pair it with a Jackie cardigan from J. Crew and the ruffle would be out the the bottom.  I don't think you should chop the ruffle off - that's what makes the cami special!! 

I like the idea of a lavendar cardigan, but also red, yellow, coral...

I woulsn't crop it - I like the idea of wearing it with a blazer. Jeans would be good.

Ladies thank you thank you! I have some closet playing to do this weekend. I hope I can use your ideas to put together some good outfits, can keep the ruffle, because I do think it makes it more "special."
