need dog advice - UPDATE!!
Permalink Closed

Thank you for your help everyone!!

I found a woman last night to take him in for 7 days while we try to find the owner. She takes in Strays for a living. I paid for the dog to be fixed and get his shots and check up. If the owner doesnt find him (or vice versa) within 7 days they will put the dog up for adoption. (they are a NO KILL shelter - but I have no worries - this dog will go in no time).

I was hysterical when we dropped the dog off....I wish we could keep him. I guess I still have 7 days to change my mind. I would be most happy if his owner found him, so I am putting up fliers today.

Have you put up signs in the neighborhood with his picture? How about posting it in the local newpaper if you have one. Someone must want this puppy. I hope you find the owners, keep us updated!

Hey jmr--I am sure you will be able to find an owner for him.  Have you tried calling some of the vets in your area to see if they know anyone who's looking for a dog?  Maybe they know of someone who recently lost their dog or whose dog died there, etc.  Also, I'm sure they will let you post signs.  I would post signs at negihborhood coffee places as well and maybe you'll get some calls.  If worse comes to worse you can always put an ad in the newspaper as well.

I would put signs up at local gas stations, walgreens, pet stores, etc.  If  he's trained, he probably just got out of his yard, so hopefully he has owners looking for him.  Good luck!

Oh my god I want him!!!

Everyones ideas are good. I would imagine that someone would be looking for him. I would also call animal control and let them know you found a dog. Also all the resuce and humane socities in your area just to let them know. They owners may call them to see if they picked up the dog.

I hope you find his parents soon.

If you can't find his owner, I'll take him! Is he housebroken? He's adorable and I want a dog so bad, but I don't have time to housebreak one right now. I'm not kidding, I'll take him.

OMG - so cute! I'm confused as to why the shelter won't take him? Ours has screwed up rules too, like they will pick up your tagged animal if it is anywhere without a leash, including your own front yard, but they want $75 to take an animal in. WHAT??? I thought that's what shelters were for? I know there are funding issues, but still...... I just can't imagine that it's better for him to be wandering around waiting for animal control to find him & pick him up - it's crazy. He's so cute though!

YES! he is trained...he is young - but he goes outside (not ONE accident in the house) he can sit - roll over and give paw. I am trying to tell M that it isn't everyday a trained dog practically knocks on your door and asks to live with you.

His main concern is if we will have time for both the dog and the baby - and believe me I can understand that - since I'll be the one home taking care of them both.

he is so sweet - has the cutest puppy eyes and knows nothing but love...so obviously he has been taken care of.

I have been to every pet store and every block in my 'hood....no one around me is looking for this poor dog.

JMR - How much does he weigh? Is his big? I have a weight limit in my development, thats why I'm curious. I would take him too, if he can't find a home!

He looks just like my mom's old dog, who was a cock-a-poo (silly name for a cocker spaniel and poodle mix).  They have very sweet personalities, and are also good with kids.  I hope you get to keep him--he is so darn cute.  Good for you for checking all the possible locations, though--if I lost that sweetie-pie I would definitely be out looking for him.

Just as a side-note--it might be really nice to have a doggie for companionship if you are going to be home alone with the baby for a while.  New babies sleep a lot, and from what I have heard, it can kind of get boring if you are used to being in an office around other people during the day and are then sort of trapped at home alone.

I was actually thinking that he might be a cock-a-poo, too. I had one of those for 15 years and they are awesome little dogs.  Seriously, if you don't want him or can't keep him, I will take him.

He's so cute!!! I say keep him if your husband can do 90% of the upkeep... we got rid of our pitbull when I was around 3 mos pregnant because I didn't want a pitbull near a baby, but my parents have a German Shepard who has been around Chris since month 6 and they are totally in love with each other.
