Hey guys, I used to be on the forum like 3-4 years ago. I wasn't a big poster, more of a lurker, but I just started coming back around a week or two ago. Is it just me or is there a lot less traffic on the site than there used to be? Where'd everyone go? I'm glad to see familiar names, I'm just surprised there's so few of them...
Anyways, just wanted to say hey and that I'm back checking out all your fabulous style!
A lot of people complained that this board was too slow and went elsewhere. Funny thing is, the speed of the board is up to the members/posters, so whatever.
The economy has certainly affected the shopping/materialism boon of the past 10 years, and I know my interest in this area has declined.
The site used to be self sufficient from commissions from the ads. Currently, the commissions earned on sales from click-throughs on our ads do not even begin to cover the expenses to keep the board up, and I view that as a reflection of the reduction in spending. The declining traffic to the board is another factor.
I suppose I could work harder to drum up traffic to the board, but I have too much going on now in addition to not being as passionate about shopping anymore. But I am only one person, and do not accept responsibility for "carrying" the board as it is reliant on a community, and not one individual.
I have other business I run under stylethread now, so I keep this board up out of loyalty to active members and write it off as a business expense.
Glad to see you back around. Please keep posting

I think alot of people are like me right now. We're here but money is TIGHT so the shopping has seriously dwindled. I need to start posting more of my thrift store finds though!

I agree, Collette. I honestly can't remember the last time I bought clothing. My closet overfloweth, however, and I'm more into working with what I have vs. buying the latest.
I've often thought that this might be a good direction for ST to go in vs. an emphasis on traditional shopping for editorial content. Just a matter of having the time.

I really like this board, but am bummed that it slowed down so much. I'm not shopping as much as I used too, by far, but it's still fun to chat about clothes. The larger shopping forums can seem really impersonal to me.
I just started posting last year, but have really enjoyed the experience. I would hate to see the board closed down, so thanks D for keeping this going.
I think that the time of year is a factor too. I haven't bought anything lately because I have more than enough winter items to get me through the rest of the season and the stores are just beginning to release their Spring stuff.
Thanks D for keeping this up! I was thinking about it this morning, and I was originally from the Fashion Hag days. God, that seems like years ago!
I've just never been a big poster. I don't buy a lot, so I never really felt like I had much to share. I always loved reading everything you guys posted though :D. I'll keep coming around, and I'll try to start posting a bit. Glad to be back :)
i noticed this too. it's been so quiet around here, nothing like it used to be. so sad, but i hope it picks up. i think once the economy turns around, it'll be a lot more active here.

This is my favorite shopping forum and I hope that traffic will pick up. The people in the other forums are so snarky and troll-y and I can't stand that atmosphere.
I have a 14 month old so I don't come here as often as I used to, but I try to come in at least once a day and post some stuff I've gotten.
I am guilty of not posting as much lately, though I usually check the site everyday. Thanks D for keeping everything going for us. I know a lot of us have blogs as well so maybe we could get a stylethread button to place on our blogs. I know it would be a small thing to help out, but it could be a way for each of us to get the word out about stylethread.
This has always been an awesome forum. The ladies here are never catty and always help to make each other better, which unfortunately you don't always find. So thanks again D for giving us a positive place we can come to. :) I will try to do my part in posting more. Lord knows I love a good conversation.

I love the button idea!

I am guilty of this as well. I have a tight budget now & SAHM so I don't shop like I use to. However I still check in time from time, I know I can always come here for advice and rec's. I love how friendly and honest you ladies are, I don't have any close friends so it makes it nice to have you ladies.
I have a question: why does reduced shopping/spending translate to not visiting this site, or not posting? There's only one thread active at a time about what people bought; there are dozens of other posts and topics.
For me talking about style doesn't equate to talking about shopping...I don't shop a lot and spend very little but I still like to talk about the subject!

Many people don't want to be tempted, so they don't get involved in the conversation, and regardless of the other categories, the main conversation on this site is fashion/shopping. Not everyone has your self-control, Su. For example, the post on the Oh Deer shoe sale lead me to a pair of shoes in my cart that I didn't need. It's a matter of avoiding temptation. On several occasions members have shared with me that they were not coming around because they were avoiding temptation -- again, those are members that shared that -- who's to know how many feel that way and don't share it?
The correlation between the economy and decline in traffic, posting and purchasing is unmistakable.
As far as a button, can someone help me write some html code? I could probably figure it out, but someone better versed would make the endeavor less daunting of a task...

I don't know what the image source is because I don't know where the button would be hosted, but for example the image source of the st logo at the top of the forums is:
http://www.stylethread.com/images/logo.gif
Maybe on the button it could say something like "Let's talk shop at Stylethread!" or "Chat fasion at Stylethread!" or whatever - something that sort of explains that it's a forum so people know what they're clicking on.

Okay, I didn't think of the temptation angle. Good point. I thought it was more based on 'since I'm not shopping, I don't have anything to contribute.'

Sure! I'll make a couple tonight. If anyone has any suggestions for what you want the button to say/look like, leave them here and I'll look before I start!

You know, in light of the shopping decline, and an emphasis on style in other facets than clothing maybe it should read:
share your style at stylethread
or
swap style ideas at stylethead
or
Join the smart and stylish on stylethread!
Chat with the smart and stylish on stylethread!
I kind of like the last one...
or how about,
Sick of snark? Join the sweet and stylish on stylethread! just kidding lol ;)
