I need to buy an interview suit - Where should I check?
Permalink Closed

I'm about to start interviewing for jobs and I need to find a new suit.  I have a few from petite sophisticate but I have outgrown them for the time being.  I haven't needed a suit in 5 years so I'm not sure where to even shop for one that is stylish but not over the top.  I'll be interviewing for accounting/financial reporting jobs so nothing too trendy.

Thanks!

What's the price range? Macy's often has good sales in the $100-150 range. J Crew is a very safe bet and if you have a Benneton nearby they sometimes have good sales. Ann Taylor would be pretty reliable too.

Higher up the chain would be Theory, which is usually pretty conservative, and Tahari. When you get the job go Armani!

I find it necessary to try on suits. And a few alterations can make an average suit look amazing.

I'd also check TJ Max or Filene's Basement. Sometimes the location of the store decides the merchandise, so I'd hit the ones located in a downtown or business setting (for example, in Chicago, the TJ Max downtown has a huge selection of suits but the ones in the suburbs do not.)

Perfect suggestions!

I'm not quite sure what is a good price vs. really expensive. I know I will not be wearing this on an every day basis so I probably don't want to spend too much - $200 maybe? Is that reasonable?

Or Loehmann's if you have those.

You can certainly find something for less than $200 (or separates that match). Just make sure it's very classic. For some reason inexpensive suits with trendy details look worse.

agreed! I would only add Banana Republic and Club Monaco (if in your area)

Another suggestion (not that you asked about color...) Since you won't be wearing it on an everyday basis, I'd try to find a navy blue suit. I think that navy would make it easier to break up the skirt and blazer so you can get more use out of it.
