Can I bring a straightener with me on a plane in my carry on or will they take it away?

To be on the safe side so that you don't have it taken away when you get there I would call the airport and airline and ask them about it specifically or I would just put it in my checked bag.  I know hairspray is not allowed to be carried onto planes or anything in an aerosol can.

I always bring mine in my carry on and I've never had a problem.

What?? I have always, always brought hairspray with me in my carry on luggage. I have never once had this questioned, much less removed.

Maybe it depends on the airport but I know New Orleans will not let you through security with a can of aerosol hairspray.  I've seen them take it out of carryon luggage and confiscate it so I never carry it on now.

Ummmmm, I got away with carrying tweezers on my last flight because those secuirty people don't check inside makeup bags located inside carryons...somehow I think your straightener will be fine.

I was looking at the TSA website and they said that tweezers, nail clippers, and hairspray (in small quantities) were allowed for both carryons and checked baggage.  I don't know if this is outdated, or if it was recently changed.  Maybe they've adjusted their policies?  On a (scary) side note, I have a pocket knife that is the same size and shape as a credit card that I keep in my wallet.  One time when flying, I forgot to take it out of my wallet and I brought it onto the plane without anyone noticing.  This scares me.

theotherjess-- that is very scary and not at all reassuring.

Not sure about the straightener though. I don't see why you wouldn't be able to carry it.

funny you should say that b/c i work for a hair product company and i carry on all of our products when traveling (there are approximately 6 aerosol products) and i never get them taken away!  i better check on that so that i dont get them taken away some time!
