NEED SUPPORT...something could be very wrong
Permalink Closed

I got some test results back from my doctor.  I have some gene mutations that can cause blood problems during pregnancy.  I had a Thrombophilia Panel done that shows mutations and need to see a hemotology specialist.  If anyone knows anything about this I have MTHFR gene mutation that is homozygus, low prtien C and high protien S.  Girls I am SO scared.  Please send good healthy vibes to this baby

hopefully everything will turn out ok!

i have a blood disorder that my hemotologist told me could cause problems with future children (ie, my problem is very minor and not problematic at all, but could cause severe blood problems with children necessitating transfusions/etc), but ONLY if my husband has the same blood issue. (which he has not been tested for yet, but is seriously unlikely as it is generally not in waspy folks)

OMG Dawn that is so scary!!! (((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))

I did some research for you, a lot of pregnant women have been prescribed extra folic acid and 1 baby aspirin to help with the blood clots.    There is something called LMWH ( low-molecular-weight heparin )   that you should speak to your hemotologist about that works wonders with pregnant woman who have the same thing as you.

Here are some links that might help you

Thanks Karina.  Looks like you and I have been doing the same reading.  I will certainly ask about the heprin.  I also read on some of the other problems associated with this condition and then decided I was better off not reading everything that could go wrong.  I'm pretty scared already...

try not to scare yourself too much - i did that with my pregnancies (i had possible DS babies) and i didn't enjoy my pregnancies the way i should have.  you are just going to have to be see by the doctor more often and probably submit yourself to lots of testing and medicine.  from what im reading, it looks like you should start pumping the folic acid right away.

Thanks girls.  I'm trying to be procative and pushing to see the specialist ASAP.  In the meantime I printed a list of food high in folic acid and am doing a ton of reasearch and thinking good thoughts.

That's kind of funny that you posted that because I was just coming back on here to post to think good thoughts.  I'm not in to all that hokey stuff but I do believe in the power of a positive attitude.  So to quote tinker bell, "think happy thoughts"

~~~~Sending stress-free, healthy, good news vibes your way~~~~
Itsapinkthing-
Was this an issue in your first pregnancy or is it something that has just recently presented itself? feel free not to answer that if it's too intrusive.
Either way, that really sucks.  What is supposed to be one of the happiest events in your life is also one that is rife with stress and worry, it's so unfair.  Try to stay hopefull - I hope that nobody gives you a reason to stop.
Seems that I probably still had the same issue with my daughter but at the time in 1999 it was not so well known or something thought to be treatable.  So it is possible I still can carry a pregnancy.  I did have other complications with my daughter, one of which they now associate with the abnormalities I have.  If nothing else this is another way my daughter gives me hope.  How ironic HOPE is her middle name since she gave me hope through all the problems I had during my pregnancy with her.  Now she does it again with this one.
