Car accident this morning
Permalink Closed

Okay, so I feel bad posting this after someone posted that their cat might not make it, b/c that's waaaay worse than my stupid car accident, but I just need to vent....

So I was on my way to work, and went to change lanes to get on the freeway, and TOTALLY did not see the car that was apparently next to me. So, I scraped it. And I'm so freaking pissed at myself, b/c this is going to cost me so much money, whether I go through my insurance or not. My insurance is already really expensive b/c of an accident 3 years ago, and b/c I drive a Honda. So I'm just seeing my meager savings just flying right out the door. I am just so pissed/upset/mad at myself/depressed about this. ARGH!

Sorry, I just had to vent.

That sucks! Is there any way you can just pay for the repairs without going through insurance so your insurance won't go up?

I had the same thing happen to me a couple of years ago.  I thought that it looked really bad, but when I took it to the body shop for an estimate they got some rubbing compound and the scratches totally came out.  It didn't cost me a dime.  Unless there is body damage it might be worth looking into.

thanks for the advice and sympathy!  And I wore the cutest outfit today too...I can't even enjoy the compliments b/c I'm so upset over this.

There was body damage on my car, but none on the other guy's.  So I'll keep my fingers crossed...I don't really mind driving around with an ugly car until I can afford to repair it.

I've been saying this for a year. Bleh. Someone once called me (after I'd hit my own car against my own apartment building) saying they'd scraped my car and would fix it. I had to, sadly, informed them there was no new damage, that that stuff was already there. I'm such a good samaritan. And the person who called me was my rich neighbor. He could have afforded to fix it. But it wouldn't have been right. At least I got good karma from it. I guess.

Anyway, I still haven't fixed my car because I figure my funds are better spent elsewhere. Silly cars.

Thanks for making me feel better about this. I guess I won't be able to decide if I should go through my insurance or not until the guy gives me the estimate for his car. I don't trust people, so I'm going to ask for the estimate in writing from the mechanic, and then he'll be required to sign a "Final Settlement" paper if I do re-imburse him for repairs. Sigh...this is just totally ruining my weekend.

Hey girl.  Its just one of those days.  Don't feel bad about posting either.  Look at it this way no one was hurt or killed so that is good.  Plus there isn't any really bad damage to the cars.

But I did the same thing a few years ago so I know how upsetting it is.  I barely knicked this lady's car but she took it out on me really badly because some one else had really hit her car badly and she had just gotten her car back.  It was terrible!

Oh make him get a few estimates before you pay for anything.  You don't want him going to a friend of his and really sticking it to you!

So sorry to hear about your accident. Hope you're feeling a lot better. Like lsubatgirl says, it could have been worse.

Same thing happened to me a couple years ago. A truck in the lane next to me blew out its tire in the middle of the freeway. Tire debris was coming at my windshield, so I stupidly tried to move in the next lane without looking and scraped a car in that lane. Long story short, the woman tried to sue me and claimed she and her passengers had all these injuries. This was impossible because I barely scraped her car and there were no major damages to either the vehicles. In the end, she dropped her case because there was not enough evidence to support her claim. Still, it was such a headace having to deal with that.

I'm sorry this happened to you!

Back in September, on my way to work, I had what I thought was a near-wreck when the car in front of me stopped suddenly. I had to swerve, and it was chaotic. I pulled over for a few minutes and no one else did, so I thought it was OK. It turned out I had barely clipped the woman in front of me. She pulled over on a different street and I didn't see her. I went to work thinking all was fine, and she called the cops to report me as a hit & run driver! I was so embarrassed, I made my husband deal with fixing her car.

So anyway, moral of the story is: at least you knew you were in an accident! It could have been worse!
