Allergies, flu or cold?
Permalink Closed

I am sooo miserable right now... I came down with something about 2-3 days ago. My nose is stuffy and very runny, I have a lot of sinus pressure in my face, sneezing, sore throat, low grade fever and just overall fatigue... The doctor said to take Robitussin and Tylenol (which are really the only things you can take while sick & preggo), but they haven't done anything to help. I wonder if I have allergies, which in that case I can take Benadryl.

Can anyone internet diagnose me?

Allergies do not usually make you feel fatigued and rundown.  But Benadryl is simply an antihistamine, so it wouldn't hurt to just try one and see if it helps.

Sounds like a cold to me, sweetie.

Allergies won't give you a fever, and they shouldn't make you fatigued, either.

Usually the difference between a cold and the flu is in the onset (flu comes on very, very suddenly, like in the middle of a day, whereas with a cold, you'll sometimes feel headaches, congestion, etc. several days beforehand). Also, the flu gives you a higher fever and will make you feel completely dessimated, whereas a cold will just make you a little tired. Good luck!

how ya doing over there?

I have allergies all the time and constantly struggle with the cold vs. allergy debate when i get a cold. (I never want to admit I'm sick. I just blame it on allergies.)

Allergy clues: itchy eyes and maybe itchy other parts (throat, inside of mouth, etc.); constant sneezing, clear, watery snot (gross but true)

Cold clues: not so clear and watery snot (so sorry for the grossness factor); feeling bad; achiness; sinus pressure (at least for me); sore throat; coughing; mucus issues

hope that info helps! tylenol cold helps me out when i have a cold. makes me crazy but helps with the symptoms.
