I just came off of a self-imposed shopping ban and went crazy, now I have to go right back on.

-absolutely NO clothes or shoes

-use up all makeup/hygeine products before buying more

-1 magazine a month

-no Cds or DVDs

-No new dog toys/collars/etc

-Absolutely NO EBAY!

until the end of July, maybe until the end of summer even...

Must build my savings back up! Going backpacking through Peru in 8 months!

I HAVE to join you ladies.  I was just talking about this with my man.  We really need to cut back.  We always say, "This is only 15 bucks, what's 15 bucks." And end up buying stuff not realizing that these little purchases add up fast, but the little payments you make toward it do not add up fast!

It's a cruel and viscious cycle and I intend to put a stop to it.  I gave my guy my credit card to curb my spending, but that doesn't help when eBay and PayPal have my card on file!

I NEED TO JOIN!  Count me in!!!!

I will join you - but after tomorrow. I have some returns to do, and may do a little extra shopping tmo, but after that - nothing for ONE MONTH for me...I can already feel how difficult this will be, but fall is my favorite season, and I know that in a month, the stores will have all these new, cute fall things that I will just *have* to get. *s*

Oh - and I am referring to clothes / shoes / handbags / accessories. I'm not a big makeup junkie and I don't spend that much on books & music.

I need to join, ESPECIALLY after my car accident today....

But, I'm going on vacation in 2 weeks for 4 days, so that doesn't count.  But I'm going to give myself a very set amount of money to spend.

My shopping ban will last until August 1st and will include:

  • shoes

  • clothes

  • accessories (jewelry, purses, whatever) - except for a beach back from Old Navy for my trip to Mexico

  • magazines (I have a subscription to Lucky and I do NOT need to buy magazines at the store!)

  • beauty products (expensive shampoo/conditioner included)

  • Eating out (except for if the guy I'm seeing REALLY wants to go out, but normally he doesn't, so that works)

  • any other frivolous expenses

I want to limit spending to the following

  • repairs to my car

  • gas

  • 1 pair of shoes for this stupid wedding i'm going to.

I really hope I can stick to this!  I need to build my savings up really badly.

Well, I'll join the ban. I'm not in need of anything really, but when I start browsing online I want everything. I decided to put an end to this madness until my sweetie comes which will be the first week of August. Then, my sweetie and I will go shopping together! yay!

Well - The cardi/shrug that I was allowing myself to buy if it went on sale at Anthro was placed on the sale rack yesterday.  I bought it and I guess I now officially can't buy anything for all of July.  This is going to be hard.  I probably should not set foot within 6 blocks of Anthropologie until the month is over.

I need to join the ban as well!  I have been very bad the past two months.  I knew I was having a problem when a couple days ago I bought two Coach bags that I don't even need and went to Gap and got two things as well that I don't need.  My bank account is dried up and payday isn't until next week!

For the month of June I was taking this survey which you had to record everything you bought (only record cash purchases over $5).  The list was disgustingly long and just about every single thing I didn't even need to buy!

I think it is better to have a dailly, instead of weekly post since I'm sure most, as well as me will "forget" that we are on a ban!

I do have my 3 day "vacation" when I visit my parents.  I usually go shopping, but not this time.  I am given $100 to go.   I will have to budget the $100 this time!  About $30 for gas (3 1/2 hours each way).  The rest will be spent going out, I may be able to buy myself something.

On my day's off from work I should organize, clean, etc instead of going browsing my favorite spots and spending money.  I already started yesterday pulling stuff out to sell on ebay and have taken some pics.  I will have to list by middle of next week.

I know I can do this!  I must be strong!

Ok, ladies, I've never done this but I am for this reason - I have so many summer things that I haven't worn yet - I dont work outside my home - there is only so much "fun" stuff you can do.

I am in the midst of some home renovations, but that is paint & unfun stuff, not home furnishings other than a new bed that is already budgeted for August.

Can't shop because I want to save for:
*I want to save for fall clothes
*I am trying to lose weight so what is the point of adding more "fat" clothes when I am going to need "skinny" clothes come October?
*I want some expensive designer jeans for fall
*I want a cardi wrap - a good one, not a cheapo one
*I need new tall black boots

Rules:
*NO NEW BOOKS - NOT EVEN FOR 0.25 at garage sales!!! I think I have a book problem.
*I currently get $20 / week additional "garage sale" allowance on top of my monthly "spending" allowance - I usually try to find things to sell on ebay, but that doesn't always work out. If I don't spend that, I can either save it for fall or put it on one great thing I want on my ongoing list. (I have been keeping a list of things that can transition for fall, such as this cool crochet 3/4 sleeve cardi I want that I've been unable to find.) But I figure $20 will allow me to buy a $5 on sale dress that I HAVE TO HAVE so I don't feel that I'm missing out on the deal of the century, but will make me think do I really need XXXXX
*ebay money earned (current which is about $40 & future) will also apply to above rules - I usually consider ebay money "free" & spend it on ridiculous stuff I do not need - I currently have lots of stuff to list I've just been lazy
*rules also apply to all money made from returns (i have some stuff going back to the store) - so that is about $70 going into my "fall" fund already!
*NO walmart of Target "sneak in" purchases - I have a tendency to put in clothing items for target particularly in my buggy & call it groceries

So according to these rules, I already have about $110 banked for fall, which is pretty good considering I just decided this!!

I seriously need help & support - I'm glad we are doing this.

I am joining the shopping ban. I did a huge closet purging this Spring, so I don't think I have enough clothes, especially skirts; but I've been buying too much stuff! I don't have the money, and I don't want to make the same mistakes while building my new wardrobe too quickly!

So:

  • absolutely no new shoes (and that includes vintage )

  • no new clothes, unless can I find a skirt I want on sale for under 20$, or a shirt I want, in the same price range

  • absolutely no new jewelry

  • no music or DVDs except for one DVD, which will be a present for hubby

  • no new books! No more trips with P. and L. to that well-hidden bookstore we've discovered!

  • no new bags, but I am allowed to exchange one I posted on the shopping thread for another bag in the same price range (90$-100$).

OK, I think this is it. Nothing til Aug. 1st.

talked to the boyfriend yesterday and he agreed to take me out to a swanky dinner and theatre show at the end of August if I can make it through july and august without breaking my ban.

my ban includes:

  • clothing, shoes, accessories, bags

  • pedicures (any idea how much i rack up at the spa when i could do it just as well at home?  around $75-100 a month!!!)

  • cds-dvds

  • make-up

i have allowed myself $100 per week to spend on whatever i want- but when it is gone- its gone!  no CC!

ok, after this past week, i'm joining this ban. i have bought way too many uneccessary items of clothing, many of which i will not wear often because they are more 'play' clothes and not 'work' clothes.  you should see me plan and get dressed for the occasions i actually do go out and play--i miss dressing up/cute/casual.  i need no more new clothes for summer--repeat-i need no more new clothes for summer, so, i will try to keep up this ban til august, or mid august, but definitely before my birthday which is at the end of august.  for me, my ban will be

-no new clothes, except for necessary item-i.e. i need need need new underwear--on that note, any recs?

-no new shoes, esp sandals/flip flops

-no new makeup/toiletries unless they are replacement items

I will allow myself to still go out since i very rarely go out.  I am making plans for a night out in san francisco to see either a play or musical and dinner, and also possibly a wine tour in napa valley for my birthday.  good idea for this thread. i really hope it will help me kep this ban, never really tried to put myself on one before...

Ok.After much hesitation (afraid I will let myself down) I am joing the shopping ban.I have gotten ridiculousy OUT OF CONTROL.

These are my stipulations:

ABSOULTELY NO CLOTHES/MAKEUP SHOPPING OF ANY SORT!

I may purchase a few summer tops and skirts.........ONLY with money (which is very minial) generated from selling items I ALREADY DON'T HAVE ROOM FOR on ebay

In the meantime I'm going to pay off some bills and put money aside in my ING account for fall clothes, which I will desperately need!

My ban will end 9/1 UNLESS..........i take my vaca back to Cincy in mid AUGUST.

welcome to hell carmen. LOL

I guess it's just that i'm on a diet & a shopping ban, let's just say I'm not entirely fun to be around / live with right now!!!!! But I keep telling myself that with my $$ that I save, I can buy the absolutely fabulous fall boots that I just know in my heart will come out before too long (& because of the diet / exercise they will fit perfectly over my calves)- and I'll be so damn happy I'll forget that I did without for even a minute.........
