Going hiking tomorrow...what to bring?
Permalink Closed

I am going hiking w/ my brother, his wife and my bf tomorrom. I am unofficially in charge of bringing things we will need- I am not sure why since we are taking my vehicle, but I guess I have to do everything. Sorry, I digress. Anywho, I just want to make sure I don't forget something so obvious. We are going to be about 4 hours from home and gone all day. We will be hiking in Hocking Hills (I mentioned that for MI/OH girls) There are lots of slippery wet rocks to climb and water to get wet in.

With that being said this is what I have packed so far

  • Bug Spray/lotion
  • Sunblock (probably won't need it)
  • Camera
  • First aid stuff??-I don't know if I need it though. I tend to be overprepared
  • We all have an extra change of socks
  • Sunglasses

What about food? We have bottled water, granola bars, fruit, trail mix and pudding packs. We have also packed a lunch. Any suggestions on easy things to snack on while hiking?

Any suggestions or thoughts would be appreciated. I know I am probably forgetting something totally obvious. Thanks girls.

If it is just a day hike, I think you are in good shape.  I don't like to carry a lot of stuff with me if I'm only going to be a few miles from the car.  Most important thing is to make sure you have enough water.  I like to bring a few Luna bars because they are easy to pack and give me a lot of energy.

Definetly bring the first aid stuff.  How about something for if you get stung by a bee or wasp? Since you are out in the woods I would definetly have it.  I think toothpaste is good for that so you could just get a travel size version.

I love PB&J sandwiches.  Don't know if you want to pack a couple of those or not.

I think you pretty much have it covered. Make sure you have a sack for your garbage.... Also, be prepared with first aid for blisters. Wear layers...I'm not sure what elevation or temps you have, but for example, I need to put on an extra layer when I stop for lunch at the top of a mountain. Oh, and don't forget the tp.....

Be careful and have fun!
