Out of the 8 times he asked me out, I said no 7 times and yes 1 time. However I canceled the 1 I said yes to, which is why his cancellation, as much as it sucked, was due karma. But, in my defense, I hadn't met him in person when I said no all those times and canceled. It's not a good defense but there it is. I'm working on a chart now...

ooh, let us know how that chart works out for ya!  hehe

okay, so i guess you can only go on what's happened since you actually met him.  what are your email interactions like lately?  i know he hasn't asked for a date, but do his emails seem flirty or is it more like small talk?  i think you should definitely maintain contact for now, but if he starts to drop hints about hanging out, jump on it!  like if he keeps talking about some movie he wants to see or a restaurant he wants to try, just say, "that sounds fun, let's see it/go there together!"  or maybe it wouldn't hurt to drop a few hints of your own... you've probably already done this, but keep at it- men can be really dense sometimes!

bluebirde - you are tooo adorable!  i think if i were single and mathematically inclined i would start using your logic and ratios!

i love the additional percentage updates too! i agree you should hold off asking the guy out and that the ball is in his court.  maybe he is having a busy week at work or maybe he's playing the game.  looking forward to updates!

you guys really cheered up my lousy mood day (even though I am on vacation)!

maybe we could all start a pool and place bets on what day he will ask you out based on the percentages you come up with.

i'm putting my money on wednesday.

ah! but that's today. no go as of 11:57a.m. i'm about to explode! Although, looking at my handy-dandy chart, I see that he's good with the communication on Wednesdays. 3 of the 9 ask outs have occurred on Wednesdays. That's a 33% chance he'll ask me today, if he's going to do some asking. I'd prefer better odds but oh well, it's as good as it's gonna get.

Keep your fingers crossed for me!

Ahhhh!!!! So I think he's going to ask me out! He asked me what I'm doing on Saturday.

To be fair, I kind of pushed him into it. My email #1: jabber jabber about some such nonsense that we were talking about. so what are you doing this weekend? His response to email #1: jabber jabber. ignore weekend question. (I'm a tiny bit fuming at this point and decide to press the issue.) My email #2: blathering on. good part: i'm so looking forward to a long weekend. lots of friends are coming into town so that'll be cool. going to bug a friend whose staying at a fancy hotel. do you have any big plans?

And then the above question about Saturday plans. I feel slightly ashamed but damnit! I was getting frustrated. If he made me wait one more day I was going to give up on him - in a very "I'm mad and not talking to you anymore" kind of way. Of course.

Have to word my reply very carefully...

Okay, here's what I replied with:

Saturday I'm planning a rollicking game of Twister actually. It's going to be crazy fun. I might spray it with a water gun and use it as a slip 'n slide. (Ick - I'm getting scary Cancun flashbacks. Only the watergun had 151 in it. Bleh! I think it was 151...) Of course I suppose Twister could wait until Sunday. Or Monday perhaps. It's that kinda game. ; ) But no, I don't really have any definite plans yet. Friends will be here but everything's up in the air right now.

Talk to you soon,
blubirde

I can't believe I've resorted to making up Twister games and asking people for advice on emails AFTER I've sent them. I think I'm officially the biggest loser I know right now. Lucky for me I know a lot of losers and I'll probably be back at the top of the pack by tomorrow.

blubirde, you are amazing. you are crazy but I love it--i agree with whoever said that crazy is the place to be! I've never had any use for people who are normal. we all have our things that we do when we like somebody. my specialty is going into melodramatic overdrive, psyching myself into thinking that the guy absolutely doesn't like me, absolutely won't call, is on the verge of breaking up with me, etc... I think it's the mid-twenties version of the third grade jinx concept. You really want something, so you convince yourself it won't happen because you don't want to "jinx" it and you will theoretically be less disappointed if it DOES happen. I have never seen any evidence to support my theory, though--fortunately, my BF did in fact like me, call me, and have no interest in dumping me all those times I convinced myself otherwise, but I don't think that I would have felt less disappointed if I had turned out to be right!

But I LOVE, LOVE, your statistical data approach. Love it.

Wait, you INVENTED the twister game? You are a flirting genius.

Oops, sorry.  I haven't read that thread in a while because for some reason I thought I had already seen all the posts.

What a freakin' loser!  What kind of idiot guy would pass up spending time with a fun girl like you?

esquiress - yeah, he emailed a little pic or comment thing on myspace but i'm ignoring it. i guess i'm over it. i don't like boys who play games. only girls.

aj - aww, thanks girl! beats me what kind of idiot guy would pass up blubirde time but i suppose it happens. BUT i dressed to the nines on saturday night when i went out with friends (to make him feel bad vicariously - i'm sure he felt it through alpha waves or something) and i met someone new. he's the lead singer in a band, which is always cool. and he called yesterday just to talk. THAT's the way you treat someone you like. unfortunately, i'm back to being apathetic where boys are concerned. ah, well. we'll see what happens. at least with apathy, there no suckage factor right?

no, blubirde--apathy TOTALLY sucks--don't ever let a boy/boys in general scare you off from feeling, or denying your feelings.  if you do that you could be cutting yourself off from the best part of life.  obviously there's a balance to be struck, you never wanna be the kinda girl that just rushes into a constant stream of hurtful situations but still, there's gotta be a middle ground between that or just some meaningless existence w/ random guys who don't inspire any real feelings.  i know this all may sound very pollyanna but imo it's the bravest way to be.  life's about risks, don't be afraid to take them (and learn from them).

ETA:  just re-read my post and it sounded kinda preachy--sorry, not my intention at all!  i just think you're fabulous and think you should feel fabulous too!

Ah, blubirde, what can I say? All the frenetic activity and calculating and flurries of email are way too fun to give up! Please don't be apathetic!!!

Now ... tell us more about this lead singer ...

The lead singer, huh? Much to my surprise he called last night (twice). He wanted me to go out with him then but I was too tired from all my july 4th festivities and then working all day. (and the gym - yay!) He improves in my esteem for calling yesterday. I have no real feelings for him yet, and to be honest I'm a bit skittish right now in the whole "getting one's hopes up" department. And I hear you esquiress but it's just so hard to take chances over and over again, ya know? So I'll say at this point I'm tentatively hopeful that lead singer guy will ask me out but I don't care enough to be intensely disappointed if he doesn't or if it doesn't work out (like I was with the calculations guy).

He's cute though. And nice. And he sings well. And plays the guitar. And knows more than 3 chords. (phoebe joke there) One funny thing about him is that he has the exact name of a guy I used to have a crush on in high school. How odd is that?

Thanks for everyone's good advice!! Esquiress, I'll work on it.

blubirde, you made me giggle as usual. I am happy you met a new guy who sounds more into you than the flake who inspired all the pie charts... and I feel you on the musician thing! So frickin sexy!

Don't be apathetic... if you're apathetic we won't get anymore charts and graphs! Think of how many people you will be disappointing!
