Opinions on this DVF cocktail dress for a Mardi Gras party
Permalink Closed

Hi all:  My husband and I are hosting a Mardi Gras party and I'm looking for something to wear.  I'm thinking a sequined dress or a dress that is either purple, gold, or green (Mardi Gras colors).  I have to buy online as I live overseas and everything here is outrageously expensive.  I found this DVF dress in purple and think it might work with black tights (b/c it's cold out) and a few Mardi Gras beads (hoping that's not cheesy).
I might also add some long black gloves and a stick Mardi Gras mask.  I'm thinking this dress might be perfect but I want to be sure as it's final sale on the dvf website (the best price that has my size still in stock).  So, can I get your opinions on the dress - yay or nay??

Thanks:

I think it's gorgeous!  And mardi gras beads at a mardi gras party are not cheesy, that's what mardi gras is all about!  lol

Gorgeous dress...should fit your theme perfectly. You *could* pair it with green stiletto sandals for the colour palette.

Thanks Leanna and Bliss - so glad you guys like!  Hmm, maybe I should play with it a bit.  What do you we think of long gloves?  I can't decide if I like them or not.  Even if I did, is it even Mardi Gras related??

The dvf website styles the same dress with black tights and long black gloves here:

the pic is zoomed in a little and i can't get it to go back, but you can get the idea.  would love to know what you guys think!

Great dress! I like it with the black tights. Not sure how I feel about the long gloves though.

What about bling-ing it out with an armful of some cheap bangles?

The gloves seem like they'd be an annoyance if you're hosting the party - you'd probably have a million things to do and they'd be slowing you down.

Dress = perfect and beads are not cheesy. You could probably find a gold or green pashmina too.

YAY - I'm sure you'll find a ton of other uses for it as well.

Not only will gloves be a pain, as Su pointed out, but the gloves paired with the black tights drew my eye down immediately.

Also, I love the idea of the mask on a stick, but that would also get to be a pain. Maybe itsapinkthing could fashion you a feathered, beaded headband that was mardi gras mask inspired!

great idea!!!  A black headband with a rhinestone in the middle, surrounded by 3 feathers, 1 gold, 1 green, 1 purple.

GD - you make a good point about the eye being drawn down - i think gloves and tights are just too heavy for that dress.

I'm intrigued by the headband idea but am having a hard time picturing it - anyone want to post a pic?  if not i'll look around on itsapinkthing's etsy store.  also, i don't love the look of headbands on ME but i found an amazing hairstylest here who does great blowouts and i'm betting he could make it look good.  thanks girls, i'm so excited!!
