Has anyone gotten the 60,000 mi. "magic" tune-up they suggest your vehicle undergo?  I think the idea is that they are essentially re-certifying.  I'm just wondering if I should shell out the $800 (yikes! for a tune-up?).  My ex-h thinks that they are just telling me that if I don't do this, it will affect vehicle performance.  I don't mind paying for a tune-up, but $800?!?  I'm paying for it on my own and am a single mom now, so if I can just get a regular tune-up instead of this "magic" (seriously, do the guys at the dealership really have to be so condescending just bec. i'm a woman? and yes, they used the word "magic"), I would be oh so happy.

Also, I'm thinking of trading in my SUV for a car, does anyone own a GS300?  I like the body style bec. though it's a sedan, it's somewhat sporty.

TIA!

My mom has the RX330 and LOVES it! Seriously, it's had NO problems at all.

As for the tune up, my mom hasn't gotton to 60,000 miles yet but she said she'll probably do it because the check all the systems and it's more than just a regular tune up at a normal body shop. hth!

Thanks, Jen.  I have the RX300 and though I love it, I really think I want a car.  I mainly needed an SUV when my daughter was younger bec. it was easier to get her in and out of child seat.  Now, she's 5 and can get in and buckle it herself.  I had my car detailed, and the loaner they gave was the 330 and I loved it.  It has such zip! lol

I guess I'll go ahead and get the tune-up.  Again, thanks for your input.

I have the RX330 too but it only has 10000 miles. I didn't know about the tuneup deal.  I wouldn't know what to do but I am sure my hubby will say we need it.

We do use the synthetic oil for oil changes --- Do you? It is more expensive but last 5000 miles instead.

We don't have a Lexus, but my husband does all our tuneup work himself...dealerships are notorius for overcharging. IMO, there is nothing involved in a tune-up that should cost that much. I think that if you can find a regular car place that you trust, they should be able to do it much cheaper. I can't think of any reason why a Lexus should cost a lot more to tune-up than, say, a Toyota, unless there's gold in your fluids or something.

Omigosh I just gone done with that 60K tune up bullcrap! At home chilling now...

My Ford Mustang is @ 64K and I've NEVER brought it in for any kind of servicing and the guys I work with were getting me worried so I called the dealership and they said it was going to cost $840 to get it tuned up and maintened and I absoulutely HAD to do it if I didn't want my baby crapping out on me

But I wasn't going to pay $800 so I brought it to a smaller Good Yr Tire place here in Houston that also does servicing and other things and they were like is yr car driving ok and they're like don't worry abt it then.. THe nice man that ran the place said old cars might need tuning up but cars thse days can last til 100k with no probs (Mine is 2000) Neways, I got a transmission servicing, new brake pads and new filters. and they checked out everything else for free and an everything including and oil change came to $350.. so def. call around and try and get a feel for those mechanics... The dealership is ripping you off for just opening the hoood and alot of places will do inspections on what yr car might need when you pay for that oil change.. I belive its called a 18pt inspectino or soemthing like that and that should be enough unless you are having probs with yr car...

Hope this helps..
