Work Outfits?
Permalink Closed

I'm going to be starting a new job!  My very first REAL corporate job.  So my problem is...I have a closetful of college appropriate clothing but nothing work suitable.  My office is business casual but I still want to look trendy without breaking the bank.  Outfit suggestions PLEASE.  Thanks!!!!!

I don't have any specific suggestions, but I like to take a very simple outfit, like pants/cardigan combo, and add something trendy or unexpected -- a lace cami in a bright color, interesting shoes, a cool belt, etc. That way, the outfit looks fresh without leaving you looking like a trend whore. HTH

Maybe you should hit the mall and get some inexpensive pieces from Express and Forever 21.  They have some cute work appropriate clothes that aren't that stuffy power hungry middle aged look woman.

Business casual is easier than you think.  Basically- don't wear jeans and wear nice shoes.  I am a college student too- so all my business wear are pieces I also like to dress down.  Just buy a few basics from Limited or Express, or collect them slowly from other stores, and mix it with anything appropriate that you already own.  Here are some outfits I have worn to work- and none of these pieces were ever specifically bought to wear to work (sorry to post my own photos, i hope that is not annoying)

I took the hoodie off- basically just a nice top, slouchy trousers, flats, and a floral bag

I've worn this with non- jeans- I love cute blazers

These cropped plaid pants get worn with vintage t-shirts a lot too- but I can wear them to work, and I love these bow shoes with jeans as well

LOL Ohhhhh, so you went to UT, huh? That's cool, I use to live literally right around the corner from it, how funny. At any rate, I hope you find you some great clothes for your new, and again - GOOD LUCK!!

Ooh Where in Houston will you be working? I am moving there in August to start a job!

Go to the Katy Mills outlet and hit up the BR Outlet.  You can get great pants there and they are always 40% off or more.  They are awesome and last a long time.

Business Casual depends on the office.  How did people there dress when you interviewed?  If you aren't 100% sure what is appropriate and what isn't is there someone there you can email and ask about it?  I am about to do that so that way I don't go and buy a whole bunch of one thing when stuff I already have would work or buy the wrong thing.
