Laser Hair Removal
Permalink Closed

Has anyone every had laser hair removal?  I'm so sick of dealing w/shaving my underarms and bikini line and ending up w/razor burn, etc.  I know I can wax too, but it just seems like getting it taken care of for good would be great!  Has anyone ever had this done to any part of their body?  Just wondering if it was painful, how much it cost, and are you happy w/the results?

I started to get my legs done years ago.  It was $1800 a session and you needed about 5.  For some reason, I just went once and never went back.  I think it was just too expensive and I really needed the money for other things.  It didn't hurt at all.  They give you this numbing cream and you put it all over your legs and cover it with saran wrap about an hour before you go.  When you get there, they take the saran wrap off and do the laser thing.  I didn't feel it at all for the most part.

Since I didn't finish all the sessions, I still grow plenty of hair on my legs.  There are just random sections where I don't get hair.  I guess for those spots the one treatment totally killed the hair follicles.

$1800 a session?! wow that's crazy-expensive!

my friend found a place in manhattan beach (here in cali, obviously) that does it for $100 a session, for bikini and underarms that is.

she's done like three sessions on her underarms and she doesn't grow ANY hair at all there.  i think the bikini still needs a few sessions.

oh but she said that the first time they did it, they didn't give her the numbing cream and it hurt like a motherf*cker (her exact words )...especially the bikini.

$100 a session sounds way more like it!  now if I only lived in Cali...now I just need to find a place in Chicago.  Thanks for the info esquiress.  If anyone knows of a good place in Chicago, let me know.

Esquiress, are you sure?  I never heard of it being so cheap.  I even went for a consultation for my upper lip and that was $300 a session.  I just feel like if it was $100 a session, everyone would have it done.  Why would anyone go waxing when they can pay a few extra bucks and have it done with forever?  I'm not trying to be snotty.  I'm just incredulous.

Well I just called and got a quote for a place in Chicago near my apartment.  For either bikini or underarm, it's only $200 per session.  They recommend 4 sessions and they are offereing a deal where if you buy one package, you get the second half off.  So I could get both my bikini and under arms lasered for $1200 total.  They guarantee no hair regrowth too, and you get a warranty.  That sounds like a pretty good deal to me.  I think I may go in and have a consultation.

how do you look into finding places to do this?  I don't want a shady doctor

That's what I was worried about too.  Word of mouth helps.  The place I called is in my neighborhood and I talked to someone who has went there.  Also, they are having me come in for a consultation, so I can meet the doctor, tour the facility, etc.  But you really don't know unless you talk to someone who's had it done.

ok here's the info i got from my friend, oh and i don't know why i though it was manhattan beach, the place is in west la:

GREAT SKIN

11340 W. Olympic Blvd.

Suite 265

Los Angeles, CA 90064

The doctor's Dr. Bradley Freedman but the physician's asst.'s are the ones who actually do it and their names are Jeremy (but she's a girl) and Julie (she's a girl too).

It's $99 per fifteen minutes and you can get your underarms and bikini done in that amount of time.  And they sell the numbing cream for $45 that you can reuse and you're supposed to put that on an hour before, do the whole saran wrap thing and then come in.

Oh and crystal you have pm!

I heard it works best if you have light skin/dark hair??? I don't have enough contrast between the two so it would be hard for the laser to pick it up???

I'm sure the expensive treatments are done by real doctors, and the cheapies by "beauticians".  Lasers can be dangerous, I would get this done by a pro.  If I had the money to spare, I would get this done.  Since I have blonde hair, it won't work on me.  The upside though, is that I can go days without shaving and you can't tell!  I also use shave minimizing lotion, which works.  I think I will pass on the electrolisis though.
