Time to Eat Cake?

If you are having a 4:30 - 5:00 wedding, cocktail hour, buffet dinner with a band - what time should the cake cutting be? Is 10:30 too late? Be honest, please....

our reception starts at 4:30 with the dinner service starting at 5 and the whole things is done at 9 pm. our cake cutting will be taking place pretty much after the dinner is finished, probably around 6:30.

i have been to weddings where the cake cutting the the last thing that a bride and groom do before they leave the reception and i've been to weddings where it's happened right after the dinner.

10:30 seems pretty late to me, but that's just because it just seems like your reception is going to be really long - usually they are about 5 hours total. it's honestly up to you - there is nothing written in stone as to when you have to do any of the different things at the reception.
