This happens all the time to me. I usually use this cheapy suave stuff, but I really love it.

I have read that putting your shirts in the dryer can make it worse. I guess the heat reacts w/ something in the deorderant and turns your shirts yellow. I have stopped putting my white shirts in the dryer which has really helped. I also soke the armpits in peroxide and that seems to help cut down on teh yellow stains too.

I have had that same problem with shirts besides white. Are you using a gel deodorant or a white solid? I found that when I quit using the gels and got back on the white solids I didn't have huge stain problems. You can try that if you haven't already.

I have read that hydrogen peroxyde gets rid of the stains; I havent' tried b/c I don't use white shirts, but may be you can experiment and report the results for the rest of us (I am writing a science paper, does it show?

i use the "double click" soft solid secret & have so since it came out. i LOVE it! anyways, i don't get pit stains so i'm not sure if it's the gel vs. solid theory or if i'm just lucky, but HTH!

I think it works. It doesn't totally remove it and make the shirt look brand new, but it does a pretty good job. I don't notice it unless I am in bright light and I am starring at the armpits.

Not that I can think, but I can't be sure. You generate oxygen from the hydrogen peroxide, while the bleach generates chlorine, so it seems to work with a different mechanism. But then it bleaches the hair, so I can't be sure.
You can try with some colored piece of fabric (ie a bright colored towel) and see if it bleaches it; if it does, you can try diluting.

I used to use Secret, now I use Suave solid because it works just as well....when I did use Secret, I had the exact same problem with the pits, it was so annoying! With Suave it still can happen, but it's less for whatever reason.

Just treat your stains before you launder. You don't need anything special, all you need is a good liquid laundry detergent like Tide, rub it in and rinse then apply some more before you throw in the load.

Thanks so much for all the hints! I will try the peroxide trick - hadn't heard that one before. In the meantime, I've switched to Mitchum and it seems to be working well so far!

This cracked me up. Hydrogen peroxide definitely bleaches. Sometimes it's recommended for whitening teeth, and even used to bleach hair. And when I was little (lol, my mom loves this story), my mom put hydrogen peroxide on a cut I'd gotten and I splattered it all over, leaving little white spots on her nice black pants.

This is why I like wearing a v-neck tee under my good white blouses. I'd rather ruin a $8 shirt than a $40 blouse. I have also used the bleach pen, it works a little. I'm also wondering that fabric softner prevents the stain from washing out. Once I forgot to use fabric softner, and the stains cleaned up well.

Yes, splash: I made a HUGE mistake: both bleach and hydrogen peroxyde release oxygen, that's the bleaching agent. It came to me last night.... Sorry I am really ashamed, I should know (much) better!

don't worry ico- i didn't test it on all my colored shirts! The thing I'm trying to get out is a little bit of yellow on my white with red/blue plaid shirt from the 70's (see my thread style) I think I may rub in Tide first though- Tide always works wonders for me- its really not that noticeable. I'm not sure if its vintage stains or mine

Try Clorox color safe bleach spray - it works wonders. That's what finally got my Secret stains out. My g'mom swears by it and she hasn't met a stain she couldn't fix yet!!
