yahoo discussion groups?
Permalink Closed

does anyone belong to one?

i'm really interested in joining a particular one, but it requires that you submit a no more than 200 word statement about yourself and why you want to join and then it must be approved to become a member.

geez, i don't want to screw up my statement and not get in! need advice on what to include / not to include in my statement.

thanks ladies!

hmmmm, but did you have to submit a statement to join? from what i can each group has it's own moderator or group leader, so maybe each is organized a bit differently?

I belong to one but it is for the camp where I work, just for us to keep in touch through the year.

I don't know what kind of advice to give about your statement, not knowing what type of group it is, but I have full faith that whatever you come up with will be acceptable .  They probably just have people write the statement to cut down on people joining who don't really care about the topic, or who are spammers (if you bother to write the statement, you probably actually want to be there).

That's interesting, though.  Good luck!

ETA: We didn't have to write a statement to join, we just have to be approved by our moderator.  I think the mods can decide how they want people to go about joining the group; in your case, it includes the "personal statement" hehe.

I've joined a couple where you have to write a paragraph about why you want to join.  It is generally done to weed out spammers, otherwise yahoo lists can get a ton of porn spam.  I wouldn't worry about it too much.  Just write a simple statement about why the group interest you and I'm sure you'll be fine.

we are members on an china adoption group on the yahoo boards and had to write something to the moderator and be approved. they have all kinds of weird rules so I don't even post but I do read a lot to learn more about what it is like to travel to china and hong kong and other people's experiences.
i am sure whatever you write will be fine.

i'm a member of my college's theatre alum board.  i didn't have to write a statement but i was part of the original group that started the board.  i think we just approve people as they ask to be in.  as long as their are an alum of the theatre dept. we let them in...
