I am so mad at Home Depot I could seriously spit nails (pardon the harware pun). Does anyone have any advice? Here's the scenario:
Well over a month ago, May 4 to be precise, I ordered a BBQ grill, a grill cover, and a set of utensils (from homedepot.com) to be delivered to my property manager in Santa Fe for the summer rental season of our casita. 2 days later I get an email saying that the utensils and cover have been sent. On 5/12, I get an email claiming that the grill has been shipped. Why it was being shipped 8 days after I ordered it is beyond me - especially when I was not told there would be a delay in shipping it. However, around May 18th, my property manager still had not received the grill and he has only received one small package (either the utensils or the grill cover). By May 30th, he received both small packages (grill cover and utensils - which supposedly shipped 5/6... why did it take 3 weeks?!) but still no grill.
So I call Home Depot. The woman acts confused, and claims my shipment got mixed up with someone else's - that my grill has gone to someone else. She said she was going to call the shipping company and get back to me. She never did. That's call #1. So two days later - right before I am to go to Santa Fe myself the other week - I call again. The woman I reached saw no record of my conversation with the other woman in the days before. She looked up my record and saw that roadway - the shipping company they used - had lost track of the package after they'd gotten it from the manufacturer. She said that they were going to put a trace on it and get me a grill ASAP, and that she'd made a record of our conversation. That's call #2. Feeling pretty good, I headed off to Santa Fe. When I returned, I was in touch with my property mgr - STILL no grill. So earlier this week I called Home Depot. Guess what? It was pretty much a rehash of my conversation the previous week. No record of my grill, and they couldn't issue a refund until its status was verified with the shipper - and they couldn't get in touch with the shipper. I told the guy that this was total bullsh*t and that even if it shows up, I refuse to pay the shipping (which was like $65!) and if I reordered, I wouldn't pay for shipping on that either. I said I felt I should be somehow compensated. The guy said he'd "make a note," but also sounded like I was unreasonable for wanting to be compensated for their buffoonery. The guy says to call back. That was call #3. I called back yesterday - call #4. NO TRACE HAD EVEN GONE OUT until they day before yesterday, now about 2 weeks AFTER the 2nd woman had claimed to be tracking my package. As we have a guest arriving Monday who expects a grill, I wanted to cancel the order and just ask my prop mgr to pick up a grill at Sears (f*ck home depot! I am never going there again!). Except the woman I got at Home Depot yesterday claimed that since the ball is supposedly rolling on tracking down my package, they can do nothing for my until it's verified that it's actually lost. Then, if it ISN'T in transit, I will get my refund 7-10 days from verification that it's lost. If it IS somehow in transit, I can't cancel the transaction, and I'd just have to send it back. I told the girl that this was total baloney, and that in the name of customer service, she should just cancel my order, give me my refund, and however they deal with the missing grill and their shipper is their problem. She asked a supervisor about this, who reiterated their crappy policy above and refused to cancel my order. I gave the girl a lecture about how this was shitty customer service and that it was not my fault or my problem how they choose to ship their goods, and that this was not what I agreed to or expected, and that I want out, NOW. She claimed she'd get her "other" supervisor to call me after lunch and maybe she'd help. I told her I'd heard that song and dance before and that nobody had returned my call (from conversation #1 of 4). She promised someone would call me one way or the other. Of course, no call.
What do I do? I have to get a grill there by Monday. I also think that even if I cancel, I should somehow be compensated for this. It's been over a month. I paid by debit, and they deducted it from my account. Our budget in SF is tight - it makes a difference if $250 is missing from our account, and now I am going to have to pay even more to get another grill - and god knows if I will EVER get my refund from these bastards.
Plus my rental agent is all ticked off that there's no grill there, and she's been telling our rentals there would be. I am in a hell of a spot.
Thoughts? Advice? ARRRGGGHHH!!!!

That stinks dc! Sounds like your only option is to go ahead and have the rental agent pick one up at Sears. And then hope you get your refund or chalk it up as a loss. In the long run, it's more important to keep your rental agent and tenants happy.
that is horrible! can you dispute it through the bank your debit card is from? I would think that you would be able to dispute the charge since you never received the item.
Ok, Home Depot stores are EQUALLY as shitty as their online counterparts.
So I sit on the phone today while a patient and understanding customer service person calls all over the place trying to track down my order (she confirmed that there were barely any notes on my record from the calls I have made, and she also laughed when I told her that supervisors were supposed to have called me back ("Ha! They never call anyone back!" she said. Inappropriate, maybe, but at least she was truthful). Eventually she gets back on the phone, tells me they've credited my account (it should show up by Tuesday - thus providing that it COULD have been done yesterday, while the stupid girl I spoke to yesterday and her supervisor said it could not) . She had even called the store in Santa Fe and verified that they had it in stock, even though she said they're really not supposed to do that. She said I could call back and place and order on the phone and my property manager could pick it up, but that unfortunately she could not do it for me, as it would constitute her using my credit card. So she transferred me to the store in Santa Fe. The guy who answered the phone repeatedly pages the appropriate department, who didn't answer. He tried for like 10 minutes. Eventually the Home & Garden dude answers. In the middle of my sentence, we get cut off. I call back. Again the dude pages repeatedly and we get nowhere. So now the operator dude tries another tack and pages "special services." The special services guy answers and I tell him that after trying and failing to order a grill online, I now would like to order it for in-store pickup. He sighs heavily and tells me he has a "long line of people." At that point, I'd had it. I told him that I'd suffered through 1.5 months with home depot and that I was going to Sears.
DO NOT, DO NOT, DO NOT SHOP AT HOME DEPOT OR HOMEDEPOT.COM!!!!
GO TO YOUR LOCAL TRUE VALUE, ACE OR SEARS, BUT FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, DO NOT GIVE HOME DEPOT YOUR MONEY!!!
(Sorry, but I feel that it is now my duty to campaign against them. I am off to call customer service and tell them all about why they suck).

UGH. Ok, here is what I hope is the conclusion to this saga. I called customer service (general, not internet) to officially register my complaint. The woman was very sympathetic (actually, she was sort of gasping and saying things like, "Oh, no - you mean there's more?" I appreciated that). She offered to conference the store and stay on the line until somebody helped me, which she did. Everyone was super nice at that point and the grill is now sitting there awaiting my property manager. If he can't pick it up this weekend and set it up for our guests, I do not know what I will do.
And I still don't know if I will ever go to HD again. It should not take all of this crap to get a grill!

Oh, I hate Home Depot with a white-hot fiery passion. The people working there used to be really knowledgable, now they just hire anybody off the street who could care LESS about helping anyone. We tried to have our kitchen floor installed by them and after putting up with their nonsense for about a month, we cancelled and went to Lowe's instead. I can't even list all the instances of terrible customer service I've encountered at that damn store. Or even just instances of misinformation...I swear they just make stuff up and try to sell you junk you don't need. I'm getting all fired up again just thinking about your experience.
For appliances, definitely hit up Sears or Lowe's.
Just so you girls know, Home Depot and Lowes sub out their contracting work. You may get good service or you may not. It is really a throw of the dice. Beyond that, it is well known in my industry that Home Depot, Lowes, and Sears are the absolute highest price for their installed services. We love, love competing with them, because no matter what product you get, believe me you are paying way too much, so it's easy for us to "steal" the sale.
Just thought you all would like to know that.
I hate those big stores and try to suppport local hardware stores as much as possible.
FOLLOW UP: Arrrrrgggghhhhh! Those rat bastards still haven't credited me (even though I ended out getting the grill from the store, I charged that on my Amex because they'd SUPPOSEDLY credited my debit card for my online order that never came).
God, I hate Home depot.

Yeah, that's right. This shit is STILL GOING ON!!! I still haven't received my credit for the one that I ordered on the internet that was lost (my debit card was charged and they still haven't refunded me. With their help, I did purchase one from the store in Santa Fe - with my Amex - which I had to pay my property manager $100 to pick up and set up).
I was on the phone with them again for 45 minutes the other day, first with the customer service ninnies, who would listen to me, then repeat back completely erroneous information. ("No, I said I DID end out buying a grill from the store on my Amex after the internet order was lost. The one I ordered on the INTERNET never came and my debit card was never credited with the refund. So it's not the store you need to be calling, it's the internet people." You f-ing moron, get it straight!!! This brain-dead idiot kept wanting to call the store in Santa Fe, even after I explained a million times that my complaint was with the internet people, not the store so much, though their customer service really blew as well). So they ended out transferring me to the internet people, to whom I had to repeat the whole scenario b/c their notes were pathetic/non-existant, who then quoted me back the wrong refund amount, on which I had to correct them b/c they weren't going to credit me for shipping the grill I never got, and they kept putting me on hold for 5-10 minutes, and eventually claimed they were crediting me that day. Have I been credited yet? No.
So, 2.5 mos after my original order, and 1.5 mos after being told I was getting credited, and 2 days after they swore they were crediting me that day, STILL NO F*&^ING CREDIT!!!! AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!
Seriously, where can I file a complaint? Better business bureau? Small claims court?
In the meanwhile, I will continue my anti-Home Depot campaign by encouraging all of you to patronize your local hardware store and DO NOT GIVE THESE RAT BASTARDS A CENT OF YOUR HARD-EARNED MONEY!!! They do not give a shit about you.
I apologize for all the profanity, but there are really no other words left for these assholes.

Oooh I'm mad for you too! I guess maybe start off with putting something in writing to them instead of this phone nonsense if you haven't already. Then maybe talk with a lawyer if you don't get anywhere with them.
Can you file a complaint with your bank over this since you used your debit and never got the grill? I would think that they would credit your card and investigate it for you if you claimed it was fraudulenty charged. When I was having problems with a web order and was getting no where with the people I got Discover card involved and within 2 days it was all cleared up.
