My family has a black tie affair to attend and my mom has a question about what she wants to wear. She has a dress that comes down right below her knees and is sleeveless...the only drawback is that it is made of black velvet. Can she wear it or is it still a faux pas? Thanks girls!

Personally I don't care much for Black Velvet especially in the sumer.  Does she have any other options?  I'm sure we could find her something nice, if she wanted to purchase another dress. Any specifics?

I agree with RAR210 --- something about black velvet feels dated to me, and in summer it seems especially un-fun, and since I'm sure your Mom is fabulous, she should get a fabulous new dress!

I agree, no black velvet.  Not only would it look out of place, but she'd probably get really hot! Take her shopping for something new and summery!
