Surprising things that happened to me in France
Permalink Closed

Just got back from 3 weeks in France and...

-I didn't even wind up wearing everything that I crammed into my teeny carry-on suitcase.

-I managed to live without a blow dryer, flat iron and hair products - and my hair actually looked ok.

-I didn't buy a single thing.

-After 5 long years, I am no longer single!

Yay yay yay! That's so exciting! As soon as I saw the title, I knew it was something like that. I'm so happy for you! Plus it gives me hope for other perpetually single people (myself). Tell us all about it!

I just knew this post had something to do with a boy   And I'll have to say, I'm a little shocked that you didn't buy a single thing

Now tell us more about this boy...

Dissappointed in the lack of purchases, but I GUESS a new man makes up for it *a little*!

Glad you had fun!

OK here are a few pictures and some details....

I hopped around a bit - 2 nights in Paris, 9 nights in Tours where the boy lives (it's about an hour outside Paris in the Loire Valley), 3 nights in Brussels where I day-tripped to Gent, Brugge and Antwerp, and then 4 more nights in Paris.

I mentioned the boy on a thread a while back. Our friends actually tried to set us up last summer and we weren't into each other at all. But in January we started corresponding through this other message board and became really friendly. Then he moved to France for a post-doctoral fellowship and I made plans to go visit him in June. I developed a huge crush on him and when he came back to the states for a visit in May we got together. Things went really well in France. We wound up spending all but 4 nights together when I was in Europe so it looks like we are going to attempt a super long-distance relationship.

I'm pretty excited - I never thought I would have a boy surprise me at the airport!
The weather was gorgeous so we spent most of the time wandering around and having picnics.
Obviously it sucks because I won't see him for a while and he's going to be living in Europe for a long time...but I can't complain!

whoah, your Gent picture gave me major deja-vu. I took this picture in Brugge- eerily similar.

Actually now that I think about it, I think your Gent picture is from Brugge...I think it may have been the other side of the canal from this one. (Oost Gistelhoff area?)

You didn't buy a single thing and you got a BF! Awesome! Long-distance relationships are so worth it IMO. I wish you two the best!

CC, what kind of camera do you have? Your pictures are spectacular. So clear, and the colors so vibrant.

Thanks for the compliments and encouragement!

Actually I was a bit disappointed with my pictures and I'm kicking myself for not taking more.

Gruiz - I have the Canon Powershot S410 Digital Elph and I'm very happy with it. If you search in the Tech forum I reviewed it a while back.

Actually ILoveChoo, that might be Brugge now that I think of it. I went to both on the same day so all those pictures are in the same folder. I've got a bunch of canal shots from both cities.

C.C., I am so excited for you!  How funny when things work out that you totally did not expect to work out.

Your pictures are great, the trip looked great.  Everything must be so, well... great for you!

Really! I have the Powershot S110 Digital Elph, and I NEVER get photos that crisp. I'm going to blame it on the fact that my camera is an older version...but in reality I know it's because you're a great photographer.

what a lovely story!  and it sounds like you had a wonderful trip!

your pictures of france made me euro-sick... (like homesick, but for europe)... i spent 6 months living in paris in 2000 and i miss it so much.  my goal in life is to buy a small apartment in paris and retire there...
