I love thanksgiving! (well at least since I took over form my grandmother, she used to make this awful turkey roasted in a pan of homemade sauerkraut, my uncle and I dubbed "cabbage a la bubbie," blech)
I'm making cider brined turkey baked sweet potatoes topped with a pecan brown sugar marshmallow crumble- which is always hilarious because half my fam won't eat it with the meal, but with dessert (they don't get the ameican "eating dessert with dinner" thing...) brussel sprouts with bacon, peccarino and cannelli beans stuffing made with french and rye bread mixed with chestnuts, cranberries, dried cherries, italian sausage and other assorts goodness cranberry fig chutney pumpkin cheesecake bars berry crumble
I don't know. I was told I didn't need to bring anything but I have been in a cooking mood. I am going to see if I can find a good pie or dessert bar recipe to make and bring.
Turkey Garlic Smashed Chunky Potatoes Sweet Potatoes with Brown sugar and Marshmallows Homemade gravy Cranberry Orange Sauce Cornbread or Biscuits Brie Basil Pastry Almond Olive Oil Green Beans Pumpkin Pie Apple Crumble Vanilla Ice Cream Apple Cider
...I pretty much do the same thing each year! I might also do rosemary roasted potatoes and a salad with pecans. I also love to make chestnuts if I can find them
Going to the in-laws for dinner, so we'll bring the wines and the desserts - vanilla-cinnamon ice cream made from coconut milk, apple pie for FIL, pumpkin pie for MIL, and something chocolate for SIL/BIL, possibly chocolate cheesecake. (All vegan so DH and I can eat it too.)

Have you been watching the Food Network??? Almost all of those things were showcased on the Dear Food Network Thanksgiving special and looked SOOO good, especially the turkey cooked in the brine...YUM!
For my MIL's I am making a cinnamon cranberry apple sauce, cranberry punch, whipped sweet potatoes covered with marshmallows and chocolate pumpkin truffles.
All my family (aunts, uncles, cousins) is getting together. We're having
turkey, ham, & posole mashed potatoes stuffing green beans rolls other sides (that different people are bringing) pecan pie brownie cheesecake smores & so much more. I'm not entirely sure of the rest of the menu.

haha- no- I've had a bunch of the recipes from cooking light about 4 years ago- though the stuffing I think is a giada de laurentis recipe.
the chocolate pumpkin truffles sound fantastic- are they tough to make??

My SIL hosts Thanksgiving (I do Christmas.) She's a chef and always puts on a wonderful dinner. She's never had roasted chestnuts before, so I am making some for an appetizer. I'm also bringing some hard cider that I bought in Montreal last year and may make another appetizer if I get the chance. I run in a 5K every Thanksgiving AM so it's just so nice not to have to come home from the race and immediately start cooking.
Not hosting any parties, so I'm just making pumpkin bread to bring to the meals I'm going to (lunch at my maternal aunt's, dinner at my paternal cousin's)

I'm making whipped sweet potatoes with a marshmallow topping from Katie Lee's new cookbook, as well as a cornbread stuffing recipe (also from her cookbook). I can't wait for Thanksgiving - yum!

Fairywings can you tell me how you make the cranberry orange sauce? I always make the cranberry with mashed pineapple and pecans and I might want to try this!
Not Fairywings, but I'll be roasting chestnuts too. It's amazingly easy. When I was in Portugal a few years ago, they sold them from a push carton the main shopping street in Oporto. It was the first time I had ever eaten chestnuts and they were amazing.
Instructions Things You'll Need:
* Chestnuts * Salt * Baking Sheets * Paring Knives
1) Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F.
2) Clean off chestnuts.
3) Use a sharp paring knife to cut an X into one side of each chestnut (too allow steam to excape.)
4) Arrange chestnuts on a baking sheet or in a shallow pan, with the cut sides up.
5) Roast in oven for 15 to 25 minutes, or until chestnuts are tender and easy to peel (check often to make sure you don't burn them.)
6) Peel the nuts when they are cool enough to handle
7) Season them with salt.
Basically it's like roasting any other nut. The trick is to not over cook them. The texture is supposed to be like aldente pasta.
