i don't think i've ever posted in the wedding forum before and i have to say i have no clue what i'm doing re: weddings. BUT i'm the maid of honor in my best friend's wedding (slightly terrifying b/c i can't believe she's actually getting married!) and i'm choosing my own dress.


she's wearing a light tiffany blue dress with chocolate brown accents. it's two pieces. the top is a corset and the bottom is a straight skirt with a bunch of very dramatic bussles (did i spell that right?) in the back, tied together with brown bows. very victorian. i think that's the right time period! or would it be elizabethan? beats me.


anyway, she's having hers made and she wants me to have mine made at the same dressmaker so she can match colors and fabrics and all that jazz. that's cool with me but i don't have any ideas to show her and i need to get moving since the wedding is in october!


can you girls help? i was thinking of something very simple, maybe like a dvf wrap dress except perhaps a stiffer fabric, if that makes sense. i want something i can wear again though. i've been looking on sites like the knot, etc., but those are all way to bridesmaidish for me.


i'm so out of my element here, it's scary. hopefully y'all can help a poor gal out!

I think that a solid chocolate brown color would be fantastic! I am not sure about what style I would like. Let me think.

what style dress looks good on you?  the chocolate would be beautiful, so you should first try to decide what style dress is flattering for you and go from there. 


the idea of the wrap dress is good in that you would def. get a lot of non-wedding use from it, but i'm not sure if the style would coordinate with the formalness of the bride's dress.

i agree that a chocolate brown dress would be the perfect complement. perhaps something that is on the airy side?

I was really hoping for a 3/4 inch or longer sleeve though because it will be in October and plus I think I can get more wear out of that length sleeve dress. It's kinda hard to find in June!

I love that first one you posted blubirde and the one in the big pic with all the detail.  I think either of those would look good with the style of the bride's dress.  And chocolate brown would look divine!
