The little beastie in my avatar is Lily. She is my mom's dog and, yes, she is a Westie. I love her!!!! I always tell my mom that I'm going to steal her when I come to visit. She is so much fun and has a big personality for a little dog. She's very good and my mom didn't have too many problems training her. The biggest problem she had was that Lily likes to shred things, toilet paper, newspaper, magazines, ect, but as she's gotten older (she just turned 3), she has been much better. There haven't been any shredding incidents in at least a year.
What else do you want to know? I'd be happy to answer your questions.
Hmm... things I can thing of off the top of my head. They are prone to skin problmes. Her skin gets very dry and flaky and can smell somtimes (Don't tell her I told you that) so she has to be bathed frequently. Her feets pads dry out too and they crack, so she had to have udder cream put on them- I think that is related to her skin problem.
Enough w/ the bad and on w/ the good. She is very freindly, very energetic, she isn't yappy or barky. She gets along great w/ other dogs. She goes to doggie school and hangs out w/ the other dogs a few times a month and does really well. She is very high energy and loves attention and being active.
Like NylaBelle said - ask away. I would be more than happy to answer you.

My MIL has a westie too. Cassie has the biggest personality. She's so much fun. She could chase her ball all day. She's extremely smart, too. She does have a lot of cute idiosyncrasies that I find so adorable. She gets a biscuit every morning and "buries" it in the living room. It'll be right out in the open and she'll act like it isn't there until she "finds" it an hour later. So cute. I just love westies!!!
She does have skin problems and allergies. She's been on a lot of medication in her day. Nothing my MIL can't handle, and most of it has been since she's been getting on in years. She's almost 15 years old now! She's still sweet, but now she's pretty much fully blind and deaf.
Yes, they are definitely prone to skin allergies. Lily sometimes has to get allergy shots and she generally is a very itchy dog. When she was a puppy, she had little bald patches b/c she would scratch so much and she had trouble growing fur at first b/c of the allergies. She has plenty of fur now (my mom keeps it short in the 'puppy cut' b/c Lily minds the heat alot--she doesn't like to go outside if it's above 70 degrees). Despite her skin issues, she's still a happy and healthy dog (she doesn't know any that being itchy isn't completely normal). Skin allergies are the main health problem with Westies.
I don't know if my MIL's dog is just weird, but MAN, that dog loves to get dirty. With those white dogs, every little spot shows, but she loves mud. She needs to be bathed quite often. She's little, so it's a quick bath. Oh, and my MIL has to clean Cassie's ears out a lot.

I would agree w/ boht of those.
Lola loves to get dirty and go crazy in the mud. She is definatley not a priss.
I forgot about the ear problem- they are also prone to that. A few weeks ago our dog had a pretty bad ear infection and she was on so much medicine for her skin and ears that is messed w/ her kidneys. They are definatley high matinence dogs. I work in a vet and it seems that every Westie that comes in is on many medications.

Yep, I'll third this!! Lily is a dirtdog!! My mom just got mulch to mulch her gardens and Lily thought that it was for her to roll around in. Her white coat gets filthy sometimes.
Lily also gets ear infections, nothing antibiotics can't fix, but just something to be aware of with Westies.
As far as medication, she isn't on anything steadily. She gets an occassional allergy shot or sometimes a round of prendizone (sp?), but nothing on a regular basis.
