What do you do for exercise?
Permalink Closed

I have been SO lazy recently & really need to get back to it. I hate going to a gym, although I love aerobics. I'm thinking of going to Jazzercise - I did this for about 6 months with 5-6 girls I used to work with & the peer pressure helped me keep with it & I loved it. Just wondering what others do for your daily exercise? I'm just so tired of talking about losing the weight & not doing anything about it.... focusing on eating alone just doesn't cut it after 30.

Bex, I have the Carmen Electra videos.  The one called Fit to Strip is really good.  It's for all over toning and tightening.  The dance ones are kind of fun but not too intense, so if you're looking for a hard workout you might want to try something else.  But I do definitely recommend the Fit to Strip.  I think it's the second video.

Also, you might want to check out www.push.tv.  I read about it in Daily Candy and decided to give it a try. So far I LOVE it.  They make workouts for you based on your fitness level, equipment, and preferences.  You get a new video every month and they update your video according to changes you make to your profile.  There are three workouts on each DVD.  If you have areas you really want to work on, you can also select up to three target areas and they'll customize the video accordingly.  Not bad for $25 a month!

Laken1, lately I've been running on Mon, Wed, and Fri (in the morning), doing the Push DVD on Tues, Thurs, and Sat, and using my elliptical for 30-45 minutes most evenings.  I think it helps if you vary your routine a little bit.  Last winter, since it was too cold to run outside, I was using my elliptical for at least an hour every day and I got so bored.  Eventually I didn't even enjoy working out anymore and was so unmotivated.  I think it's just important to find something you enjoy and stick with it.  If you really like Jazzercise, you should take it up again!

i normally do my yoga video 3x/wk but lately it's been more like 2 cuz i've been slacking.  also, for a while i was walking for an hour m-f before work and whether it was that, the yoga, or the combo, i really noticed a difference & so did people around me!

I run and bike about 5 days at week, and when I don't I use free weights or do abs (sometimes I do weights at night even if I have already biked/run, so that the time spent in front of TV doesn't seem completely wasted).
Sometimes, if the weather is really nasty I go swimming.
I have been using the NYC ballet workout DVDs, and I really think they are great for toning, esp the abs. I'd like to buy a pilates DVD, but I am delaying it until The shopping bad ends...

laken1, the most important suggestion I can give you is to find something you really love. For me, that's biking: I don't mind waking up at 5:30 in the morning to ride, and it's more fun than a workout for me. The rest I do b/c I feel like I have to, but biking is something I look forward to.

I usually just head to the gym and take the classes which are more fun. My favorite is the kickboxing class, its a really intense workout, but the time passes so fast. I think you can buy at home dvd's for it too. I was also thinking of buying a PS2 just for the DDR pad. My friend has one and it is a great workout and so fun.

Sound like you need a group environment to work out in. Try a high intensity class such as jazzercise, spinning, kickboxing etc. And a low impact such as pilaties or yoga.  Add abs 1-3 times a week and weights 2-3 times a week and your set!

Oh, heres my routine:

Mon: 1 hour cardio triceps and biceps

Tues: 45 min. cardio, abs, hamstrings, calves

Wed: 1 hour cardio 20 min. pilaties/yoga

Thurs: 45 min. cardio, abs, back, chest

Fri: 1 hour cardio

Sat: 30 min. cardio glutes, quads, abs

Sun: Rest!!!

laken1 - About a year ago I found myself in an exercise rut too.  I have worked out in some way or another since I was 13 (I'm now 28) but last year I just didn't feel like doing anything anymore.  Then my Mom talked me into coming to her Bikram yoga class with her and after about 2 classes I was hooked.  Bikram is the yoga you do in a room which is heated to about 105 degree.   I know it's not for everyone but I love it and I've never been in better shape plus I pay for 12 classes at a time and if I don't use them within 2 months I lose the classes so I'm motivated to go because I want to use the classes I've paid for.  Here's the website if you're interested ... www.bikramyoga.com

Here's my new routine I'm starting today.

Monday: cardio and arms and back in evening
Tuesday: yoga class at lunch, cardio and legs in evening
Wednesday: bodyflow class at lunch, cardio and arms in evening
Thursday: yoga class at lunch, quick cardio in evening (not a lot of time on Thurs after work)
Weekend: usually try and fit something in I like - a run Saturday morning when it's still cool, swimming with friends, etc.

The good thing with my workout schedule is that it's got so much in it that if I have to work late or have a meeting with an org. one night (or something), it's okay if I miss that part of the workout because I already did something during the day. Plus the classes at lunch make work fly by and give me tons of energy for the rest of the day.

I'm dying to buy a bike to go for rides (my last one got stolen) but I don't have the money for it right now. Damnit.

I also have a kickboxing dvd I like a lot. I take it with me when I travel for an extended period of time. Convenient and kicks my ass. I'd like to try the carmen electra ones also (i mean it's twofold - sexy moves and workout) and the ballet one but i'm waiting for the money to start pouring in. plus, with the ballet one, i'm not sure i'm coordinated enough for it.

Since it's been warm out, my bf and I have been playing alot of tennis. We live 1 block from the park and it's never crowded.

Other things I do, (this isn't really exercise but it helps), I walk to/from work from Port Authority (the bus terminal). This equals a little over than 3 miles for the total trip. It's usually stop and go (because of traffic) but I try to walk fast and wear comfy shoes to make it seem more like exercise.

There is gym equipment in my apt so I do alot of free weights (I just kinda make stuff up.. doing moves I learned in pilates and have seen in magazine) and the elliptical machine and treadmill. I usually don't do more than 30 minutes on those things each. I hate just being on a machine.

I really like "Fit to Strip!" The first time I did it my inner thighs were KILLING me! It was like it worked a part of my thighs that had never been worked before. I really like this video alot.

I do pilates and yoga too.

I push the buttons on my remote for arm exercises and pace around my apartment for cardio

Seriously, I do the firm tapes for cardio and weight training and the other days when I'm not doing the above exercises I do the Carmen Electra strip dance workout.

This thread makes me feel like a lazy cow

My dog and I run about 1/2 mile a day, then we walk another 1/4-1/2 mile. I am way too lazy to work out for myself, so the fact that she needs exercise motivates me.

I also try to do Pilates a few times a week.

Walking to and from my car just about does it for me!  Keeping slim depends a lot on diet too.  For breakfast I usually have carnation instant breakfast or one of those microwave breakfast with eggs, bacon, and hashbrowns.  I love weight watchers and smart ones tv dinners for lunch.  They are tasty, plus they don't come with too much food.   I also will have a flinstones vitamin every day.   Then I snack frequently.  I've been having ice cream sandwhiches everyday, mmmm!   Anyways, I've been thinking about getting a court club membership to go swimming and stuff.  I'm too thin, I need to get a little muscle so it doesn't look so bad!

Dang, yall are super active!  Way to be.  I usually work out at the gym three times per week, 30 mins on the eliptical and then I give all the weight machines a whirl.  On the days I skip the gym and park my butt in front of the teevee, I try to do lil exercises during commercial breaks.  This week my goal is to make it to the gym everyday, except Sunday.  Lately I've been eating literally everything in sight so I figure that's the only way to balance things.

My husband and I, along with another couple (friends of ours) play tennis 3-5 times a week for an hour and a half. We live a couple of blocks from eachother and a block from the park. We make up all these stupid (but FUN) little games and usually start out at the handball courts then make our way over to the tennis court and play doubles.

This is the kind of "working out" I have to do cuz I get bired easily and am never motivated to go to the gym.

I feel like an oaf these days. I used to fence twice a week and do ballroom and folk dancing 2-3 times a week. Between that and hillwalking around my old college campus, I was in killer shape. Now, I run periodically ( I mean like once a week) and I'm the only person in LA who does a large degree of super-fast New York style walking to get anywhere.
