Doggie #4... nope
Permalink Closed

So no dog . I called today and the lady @ the pound said that his owners never called for him, but there were going to give it a few days. I guess there is rescue group that is going to take the weenie and the dog he came in w/. The lady failed to mention the all three times that times we called that there was another dog and the two went together. Accroding to this lady the two are good friends and they don't want to seperate them. Needless to say I am very bummed.
***************************************************************************************

My aunt and uncle are looking for a second dog. My mom and I have been helping them look...big mistake. My mom found a weenier dog that is a few hours south of us. She told me about the dog and I asked what his name was. She said he doesn't have a name he is just pen #17. I said that is a pound and if you are serious about getting him you need to call now before he gets put to sleep.

So she called and I guess they are looking for his owner, but if no one claims him by Friday we can have him. I am trying not to get to attached yet becuause if he has a family then I do think he should go back to then, but he is so cute and we love weenie dogs! I am so excited - we have one and I can't wait to have a second one, so they can run around in the back yard and have weiner dog parites!

Good thing we have a decent size house and my mom is a clean freak because I am beginning to live in a zoo.

RyanJ - you have a dachsund?  I'm so jealous - my boyfriend and I want one soooo bad, but our apartment doesn't allow dogs.  We just fell in love w/weiner dogs!  Do you have any pics of yours that you can post?

I hope you get him   I wish I could take him

They are really great dogs-yappy but great.

We got our first Weenie dog from a shelter about 10 years ago and he dyed unexpectedly. My mom fell in love w/ wierer dogs so about 3 years ago we got our second one. He is 4 now.

None of these pics are very good because they were taking w/ a crappy disposable camera, but here is Wills.

The only baby pic we have

Awww, he's so adorable!  I personally want a short-hair, but yours is so cute!  What do you mean they're yappy?  That scares me...

Short hairs are cute too. I like all three of them- long, short, wired they are all cute and so funny looking.

Maybe yappy isn't the best word. He is really affectoinate, and doesn't bite, nip or growl, but when strangers come over he lets you know. Protective maybe the better word for it. When dogs that he is unfamilar w/ come over or people that he doesn't know he will bark at them until he feels comfortable. I don't take him to the park because he will bark at all the people and dogs, but he is really great when I walk him in a neighborhood and he is w/ his sister and brother. Both of our weenies were like that. Obdience classes are a must and it really helped calm him down. They are great dogs though.

ShopChicago I just want to second what RyanJ is saying. I have a red mini-smooth who is the co-awesomest dog in the world but she is LOUD and barky. She doesn't bark for no reason - i.e. she is quiet most of the time, but if someone approaches the house, or approaches us on the street, she goes crazy barking and shrieking. I posted about it on here awhile ago because it is so bad I have to be careful when I take her out so we don't meet other dogs. Not all dachsies are like this but a lot of them are...if you get one prepared to take them to classes/socialize them a LOT and still maybe have a slightly barky dog.

PS. RyanJ - I hope you get this dog...please post an update!

Thanks - I appreciate the info.  We're defintely getting one as soon as we move somewhere that allows dogs.  It's defintely good to know that they bark though.  They do seem like awesome, loving dogs.  And they're so adorable!

I hope they don't. Anybody who takes several days to find their dog at a local pound doesn't deserve it anyway. Good luck =)

A word to the wise - (me, dealing with kittens) - make sure they are fixed so they only have weiner dog parties, not weiner dog orgies!!!! LOL - sorry - that's the first thing I thought of with the party. My DH & I are laughing laughing.

Your weiner dog looks different than what I was thinking - more like a cocker spaniel than the weiner I was thinking ( I guess the difference between long & short haired?) - I had cocker spaniels when I was a kid so I think it's even cuter than I thought it would be.

Good luck - I hope you get it - please let us know.

They are both boys so I guess we can't stop them from having orgies, but there definatley won't be any puppies!

Bummer, I'm sorry to hear you didn't get him.  They should have told you about the other dog and that they didn't want to seperate him.  I hope they find a good home for both.

I'm so sorry - I know you were excited about getting the doggie - I hope they find them a good home - I can't believe they didn't tell you about the other dog from the beginning - that really blows. On the up side, I still have kitties - you want me to express mail you one?
