I got out of it once by saying I was in school and it would affect my grade. I also put down that I would be happy to be a juror during the months of June, July and August when I was not taking any classes. I think adding that was important because it showed I wasn't trying to get out of my duties. Are you in school? That may work. I know they say that isn't an acceptable excuse, but it worked for me.
I was called again in the summer and it ended up being cancelled for some reason and they never rescheduled, so I've never actually been to jury duty.
I've heard that people that are paid by the hour have claimed that missing a day of work would be a financial hardship. My boss at my part-time job at the time told me he didn't have to compensate me for the day because I was part-time and only paid for the hours I was there. That was my real concern when I backed out of jury duty.
Now that I'm salaried, I'd be happy to serve on a jury. I think it would be kind of fun.
I've been able to have it postponed because they scheduled it during a busy time at work. You should give that a try. You probably can't get out of it completely, but they'll usually reschedule you.
I'm a stay at home mom with a toddler so I usually put that down, and that I have noone to babysit my son (thats why I stay home) and that I wont pay a stranger to do it......
works so far, well see what happens when he starts school
usually you can have it postponed. but chances are, you won't get picked. if during selection, you position yourself to be opinionated, you have a better chance of being dismissed because most attorneys want people who are (hope this doesn't offend any attorneys) kinda naive and open-minded. I think the most jury duty is for accident and injury situations and DWIs.
I have been called to duty twice, once I showed up late, so the judge rolled his eyes and dismissed me. Another time, I just wasn't picked and I was only asked one question anyway in which I kind of disagreed with the attorney about "what/how much of the victims quality of life the defending driver in such injury accident is responsible for."

Both my parents have gotten out of it. My mom said that it interfered w/ her work and she would be inconnivance a lot of patients if she had to cancel their surgeries.
My dad told them that he was not able to take the time off of work. He has his own business and he has to be there to run it.
I want to be called for jury duty and I have not. I don't have a lot going on right now and I think it would be cool to do @ least once.

Well if it isn't a good time for you any of the above excuses would be good to try. My mom was called once for jury duty and she asked to be postponed because it was when we were going on vacation and the airline tickets had been purchased already. They never did call her back. You could try that one.
i got called once. i was registered to vote in my hometown and i lived in another town an hour away. i told them that i no longer lived in the area and they dismissed me.
