Cat owners...

One of my beloved cats has started peeing ON MY BED. Nowhere else, but on the bed. So whenever this happens I get to wash my sheets, blackets, duvet and duvet cover, AND mattress pad. Fun, fun.

I honestly think it is my older cat, Spencer. I also think he's doing is out of spite. As much as I love him, he is rather sinister. The spraying only happens after an event that pissed him off (no pun intended ) like the day after I brought them home from the kennel after I was on vacation, the other day when I shut them in the bedroom when I dealt with my health insurance guy, etc.

Anybody has any suggestions. My aunt is a certified cat woman and thinks if it was a UTI or something it would not just happen on my bed and would be a more regular occurance. Any thoughts or ideas on how to make him stop??? I'm trying everyone here before I resort to the vet.

Since I love to post pictures... here they are again!

My cat has done this before, too. I believe it was out of vengence b/c she looked right at me the whole time she was doing it. My vet said wash everything really well so all the pee smell is gone and keep the litter box really really clean. Get more than I litter box if necessary.

Other than that it is up to your cat. Or just try not to piss him off.

My sisters cat did the same thing to her when she moved out of my parents house and into an apartment with her fiance.  It turned out the cat didn't like to be left alone during the day so now when they leave for work she has to keep the radio on.  No more peeing!!

my old cat did this ALL THE TIME. but i think keeping the litterbox fresh helps (like scoop everyday). but if it becomes a persistent problem... try keeping your cat off your bed first (only thing that works is double sided tape!!! i would cover my sofa in it if i could). or close your bedroom door.

i don't know. cats do their own thing. you can't control them.

I have no advice, but I just wanted to say that I feel your pain. My cat had kittens 8 weeks ago & one of them just doesn't get the whole pee in the litter box thing. She goes #2 in it perfectly, but thinks my bed is the pee spot. I wish I had $1 for everytime I've washed my sheets, mattress pad, blankets, etc. I have been scooping the box constantly & putting her in it every 2 hours, but now she darts out of it like I have set her on hot coals so I think I'm making it worse. I'm anxious to hear all the answers. It probably is mad at you, but dang it, GET OVER IT KITTY!!! They are so independent & rebellious - I think that's why I love cats. They are both very cute, btw. Hang in there.....

This situation happened to my roommate. Pookie (that's the cat) would get mad and pee in this one spot in my roomie's bedroom. Here's what she did:

1. Keep the bedroom door closed at all times unless you're in there (keep the cats out)
2. Get 2 litterboxes
3. Clean them regularly (like every day if you have to)
4. If the cat starts acting like it might be bad (i.e. pee on something it shouldn't), put it in the litterbox. If it has no urine in its bladder it can't very well pee on something can it?
5. Clean the spot where the cat peed really, really well so he can't smell it (there's some stuff you can buy at the pet store to get rid of the odor)
6. put plastic over the spot where he peed (kind of hard since it's on your bed). a cat won't like peeing in a place where its paws can get wet
7. put food down on the spot (again hard since it's the bed). the kitty will not want to pee where its food is.

Hope that helps! And if you go to the vet, they will FOR SURE do an UTI test, so be prepared.

I would take him to the vet just to be sure.  I don't believe cats pee out of things out of vengence.  Not that they can't be doing it for mental reasons (loneliness, frustration, etc.), but I don't believe they do it just to spite us.

One of our cats started peeing on a kitchen rug a few years ago.  The rug was the ONLY place he would pee outside his box  It turned out to be due to diabetes.

You should also go to a pet store and buy an enzyme cleaner.  No normal cleaning products will completely get out the odor.  You might not be able to smell it, but your cat can.  And once something has that odor, it is generally considered fair game for peeing.

I agree w/ Luckylily. There is something going on w/ you cat. He is just not doing it to be a jerk. Take him to the vet and get everything checked out- you don't want a small problem to turn into a large problem.

Again like luckylily said the enzyme cleaner is what you need to clean the urine up w/. He will be able to smell his urine if you don't have he may keep peeing on the same spot.

Good luck and I hope Spencer gets better.

I would take him to the vet just to rule out anything but my cat Caesar will do this. He will pee in my laundry basket when he's mad. He only does this when I go on vacation for a long period of time and when I start dating someone new. I learned to hide my laundry basket from him. Hope everything works out.

Your kitties are adorable by the way.
