Highlights versus Single Process color
Permalink Closed

I have naturally dark blonde hair and get partial highlights but am looking to scale back on costs.  I've tried dying my hair out of the bottle and didn't like how yellow it usually turned out, and how unpredictable the process was.  I am considering going to a salon for single process hair color but don't want to regret the decision.  Has anyone done the same?   Whats the main diff in appearance?  I feel stupid for even asking but I figure you ladies would be my best resourse.  Am attaching a recent pic to give you an idea of my color.

I have blond  highlights too  and I will be  going back to dark brown soon(at my salon of course). Iam curious to hear back from other ladies as well. Is it done by just re-coloring it brown?

I have light/medium brown hair and have been dying it black with single process color (from the salon) for about 2 years.

I love it.

For me, my highlights/lowlights were never close enough to my scalp and I felt like I had re-growth 2-3 weeks later. With the new process, the color is just one step so my stylist just paints it on my head. I don't notice any roots until I hit the 9-10 week mark.

Salon color is def a different formula than what you get at home so the color should turn out better. My stylist also tells me to NEVER mix the two formulas (like by alternating doing your hair yourself one time and going to the salon two months later). You have to pick one and stick with it.

The formulas in the different products do NOT mix well and you could end up with a shade that you never intended.

Also, highlights/lowlights are very expensive. At my salon, doing a full head of hair is well over $200. My single process color is only $60 - so you will definately save money.

At first I was worried that my hair color would be flat with no dimension/variation by going to a one color process but I have found it to be just the opposite. My natural highlights still shine through the color and I get compliments like crazy.

Hope that helps!
