tipping at medspa?

I go to one for Laser removal and have never tipped or seen anyone else tip. Since it's run like a doctor's office (less clinical maybe, but very professional) I didn't consider tipping. To me, it'd be like tipping at the dentist's office.

Ladies, on a different note: does it work? Lazer hair removal? I did once ( 5 sessions at OB's office) - NOTHING. It was a few years back, I still hope that lazers progress & will read my hair. I have pale skin & med. brown hair.

Kind of. So far it has lessened the hair I want removed, but hasn't eliminated it completely. There are 2 types of machines. One is a laser and the other a pulse. Apparently sometimes one type doens't work as well as the other on certain people. They have just changed me over from the laser to the pulse to see if I'll respond better. I've had 7 sessions (6 on the laser and so far one on the pulse) and just paid for another 4. When it's all done, it'll be about $1,000 or so. But if it'll get rid of the hair, it's worth the money to me.

When I did lazer - nothing worked AT ALL, I spent $100 per session, did 5 or 6, was willing to pay ANY money back then ( my financial situation doesn't allow me to do it now or in any near future, unfortunately), but I was pissed that they saw no results & still changed nothing on the machine...Just "covered their but" but repeatingly telling me: it's not going to completely go away, you'll need some maintenance, there should be less, but not 100% off...." Great...that's when you go without a referral...

I had the same experience my first time (about 5 years ago too.) This time I did my homework better and got a referral from my dermatologist. When I explained my past experience to the new place, they said that I probably didn't have enough sessions (4) and the machine's have gotten better (which is true. My face doesn't feel like it's been set on fire after the sessions like it did 5 years a go.) Luckily my medispa offers monthly specials so I've been able to get some breaks on the prices.

Thanks for the tipping advice...as for laser hair removal, I've had it before and was pleased with the results until a couple of years later when the hair came back. I had my legs done at a different place than I had my underarms/bikini line, and it seems like the hair removal on my legs at least decreased the amount of growth permanently. I don't know what kinds of lasers were used, though, and it was about 5 years ago.

in regards to tipping- I get glycolics at my derms office (they have an onsite medical esthetician) and i don't tip. i don't think its customary since medspas are more clinical as someone else noted.

in regards to the laser hair removal- two of my best friends have had it done and loved the results. they each went 6 times. both of them have very dark hair though and i hear that it works best on darker hair vs. lighter hair.
