Going to East Coast and need packing advice (NY/PA/VA)
Permalink Closed

Hey girls!

I'll be flying from LA to NYC on June 17th and leaving on the 22nd. During hte course of those 5 days, I will probably visit my dad in the Poconos (PA), go to my good friend's wedding in Virginia, and spend a few days in NYC. I'm trying to figure out what to pack. I probably will spend one night in NYC, but the rest of the nights will be at my dad's in PA. Have there been any weather abnormalities as of late that I should be worried about? Any other advice on what to pack. I know how not to look like a tourist and all, but any weather-specific advice would be great.

thanks!

i did a lot of skirts and tanks when i was in the poconos with my bf.  i added a denim jacket if it got cold.  i feel like people are super casual there.  make sure you check out this blueberry picking farm, i can't remember the name, but it has the best blueberry ice cream (i also had mono when we were there and all i wanted was ice cream!)  we went in late july.  if your dad is from there, he probably knows it.

in nyc i would wear the same.  honestly, it's probably similar to what you would wear in l.a. just add humidity.  also, it doesn't get really cold at night, so you might just need a light jacket at most (i heard it gets pretty chilly in l.a. at night).  i hope that helps.  i'm kinda jealous, i miss the east coast at times.

yes yes yes!  it so soooooooo hot on the east coast right now.  definitely pack for it.  i always hated the city (NYC) in the summer.  so muggy and hot and awful... the poconos seemed to be cooler just b/c of the setting, but i would still plan for muggy hot weather!

Yes, we're having a heat wave. I'm not sure if it's the official start of summer or if it'll break soon, but it's been in the mid-80s lately. It does cool off considerably in the evening though, so you may want to bring a pair of jeans or long pants and a sweatshirt/sweater. Being from LA, you may be used to the heat, but it sort of snuck up on us here and I for one, am having trouble adjusting.

I would check weather.com for all the places you'll be visiting. It'll be warmer in VA than in NYC and probably warmer in NYC than in PA. So you'll probably have to pack a variety of things. Sorry I can't be more help, but the weather hasn't been exactly consistent in these parts.

Regardless of what the temperature is, it's still going to be humid, which means sticky skin and frizzy hair (pretty, huh?).  Right now it's soooo hot (90 degrees and climbing) and humid.  The heat isn't bad, it's the humidity that gets you.  I would pack plenty of skirts or linen pants and tank tops/camis and then bring some layers like cardigans for if you get chilly at night.  If it's still as hot and humid then as it is now, you won't need any of those layers.

It's been so hot that I've been hanging around in the bare minimum---tanks and little skirts or shorts (for around the house).  If you're used to LA weather (no humidy, lucky you!!) with cooler nights (when I was there in August a few years back, I was actually COLD in the evenings), you may really mind the humidity.  It's humid straight through the night here. Ick.
