How to make this dress less 'dressy'
Permalink Closed

I got this white chiffon halter dress ealier in the spring but have yet to wear it.  I think its too dressy to wear anywhere.  I would like to match it up w/maybe a mini cardigan, jacket, shrug . . to make it a litte more casual.  I can picture several options in my head, colors, designs, but nothing flows with the dress.

Can y'all help?  Sorry for the bad light, dh was still sleeping.

I'll take a shot...

You could add brown sandals, and either a western-style brown belt or tie a large scarf, folded diagonally, round your waist gypsie-style.

Maybe a jean jacket and metallic flip flops?  Where were you planning on wearing it?

That's a tough one.  I'm picturing a worn looking jean jacket, brown "boho" style belt low on the waist and brown wedges.

Exactly - I love sequins for daytime!

You can't really tell from my picture because of the color, but the the dress has a shirred waist.  That said, do y'all think a belt would still work with the dress?

The waist of the dress is similar to the dress below:

You'd have to try it on and see where a belt would sit with regards to the shirring - I think it could totally be done without a belt too though.  Just maybe with a jacket in a more cropped length to make up for the waist/hip definition a belt would lend?

Just about anywhere, shopping, dinner, out w/dh.

Ok, so I think I'll try this:

  • Faded cropped jean jacket I recently bought.
  • Boho belt
  • Brown Leather Steve Madden Sandals. (very bohemian like)
  • Boho earrings
  • Chunky necklace

Of course! ever since I discovered stylethread, I've always been, "Oh! Oh! Me next!" but my hubby guards his cam w/his life! Recently I've been stocking his cam w/batteries, so I've earned my brownie points.

So stay tuned . . .
