LOL - ditto. Although the poll choices have to be the funniest thing I've seen in a long time - that is hysterical! (my DH said the yoda speaks has him a tad concerned, but a nerd he is).

Sounds like a healthy obsesssion, and I chose to believe it's 80s nostalgia. And I think it's good to have other interests, so fashion board + SW board - seems ok to me! I also watched the whole series in the past 2-3 weeks in anticipation of the movie. We have not stood in because my DH's unexpected surgery, we haven't seen the movie yet. But as soon as he can sit still for that long, we are there.

Ugh...Ok... I liked Ep. 3, I really did. But there were so many issues and problems and plot holes it drove me crazy. Halleybird and other Star Wars nerds, help me out here...

1) Hiding the babies...Why would they hide Luke with Owen and Beru on Tatooine. Wouldn't that be the first place Vader would suspect? And Bale Organa was sooo cheesy I just about died "My wife and I have always wanted a baby girl"

2) Padme...***Sorry Spoilers***If she dies at the twins birth, then how come in Return of the Jedi Luke says to Leia "what was your mother like?" Leia says "She died when I was very young, but she was very beautiful but very sad". Does she remeber her from birth?

3) Cutting off of limbs...Ok we get it, its a theme. Did everyone have to have a hand cut off? It was a little excessive. Mace Windu, Darth Sidious, General Grievous had a couple...

4) Obi Wan and Yoda's conversation at the end about Qui-Gon Jin. Oops, it seemed like Gorge Lucas forgot that Obi Wan's body disappears in Star Wars (Episode 4) so he quickly had to think of something that wrapped it up.

5) Chewbacca...so unneccesary. Doesn't it seem a little weird that he would go from being a Wookiee military personnel to a smuggler?

 

your poll was hysterical.  and if you are a star wars nerd, welcome me into your club please.  i have also watched all of the star wars movies in order. i'm an addict.  i want the books now that i have ordered thme for a friend. i also have a crush on darth vader.  ( actually hayden christensen )  and i'm also working on finding a bootleg copy of #3. 

i do feel like it has somehting to do with our age and growin up in the 80's.

Edited to add: These are my rationalizations, of course. I do think Lucas doesn't think things through. I also think he writes the most trite dialogue EVER!

Answer these questions, I can. I had the same ones & that's why I went to theforce.net forums.

1. They hid Luke on Tatooine for several reasons. First, Tatooine is in the outer rim and not really part of the Empire. It's basically the boonies, so Vader is unlikely to be close enough to it to sense Luke's presence. Second, Anakin/DV hates Tatooine. That's where his mother was killed, and in Ep.2 Anakin makes several references to hating Tatooine and the sand. Notice that in Episode 4, Vader sends his troops to the planet to look for R2 -- he doesn't go himself.

2. There are two explanations for Leia's memory. First, Leia is very strong in the force, especially when it comes to sensation and people (remember, she senses Luke is her brother long before he tells her). The second explanation is the one trisarahtops mentioned -- she is actually remembering Organa's wife.

3. I think the limbs are just Lucas's very obvious attempt at symbolism, weakness, etc. Meh.

4. Supposedly there was supposed to be a scene with Qui-Gon in Ep3 and it got cut. Obi-wan's body disappears because Qui-Gon, from the afterlife, has taught him the secret to immortality. That explains why Yoda and Obi-Wan (not the rest of the Jedi) appear at the end of Episode 6 (though it doesn't explain where Qui-Gon is in that scene, or why Anakin is there instead -- the geeks are busy debating this one, too.)

5. I always thought that Chewie had to leave the Wookie planet since most of the Wookies were destroyed by the Empire. I thought he was just angry and bitter and became a smuggler so he wouldn't have to be a part of the Empire.

Mikacat: There's a lot of debate over whether Luke actually did keep the name Skywalker. The first explanation is that Uncle Owen kept his name -- there's some debate over whether Owen knew that Anakin became Darth Vader. The second one is that Luke went by the surname Lars until he met Obi-Wan and his uncle died -- and then, knowing that his father was a Jedi and that he wouldn't return to Tatooine, he calls himself Luke Skywalker (the only time he calls himself that is when he rescues Leia).

Tri_sarah_tops: I think Vader didn't recognize Leia because she wasn't using the Force. Remember, the Jedi sense one another when they are using it. That's why Vader doesn't feel Luke's presence in Episode 4 until Luke uses it to shoot the Death Star -- that's when Vader says "The Force is strong with this one." I think that since Leia didn't know about it and wasn't using it, he couldn't detect her presence at all. I also think we are meant to understand that Vader's powers are much diminished from Episode 3. Remember, he is only partially human.

Great poll!  I'm a Star Wars fan too. Though, after seeing the new trilogy, I share the same opinion of Lucas' inability to write dialogue. *Especially* love scenes.  The scenes between Padme and Anakin in Revenge of the Sith were almost unbearable.  I think the first trilogy (eps 4-6) were the best.  Han Solo made Star Wars great.  My hubby and I have had very similar discussions to what you listed in your post.

Just don't camp out for tickets in costume.
