I'm sorry you had to go through that. I'm single & have given up hanging out w/my married/coupled friends. It seems that all they do is talk about their married/cohabiting lives which makes me feel like a loser b/c I enjoy being single.
I'm sure she meant well, but it came off completely wrong. I found that the more my friends meddle, the worse it is. If you confront her, just be honest & tell her you don't want her to do it again. It's a nice gesture, but it leaves everyone in an awkward situation.
bring it up to her AGAIN, and next time your invited to go somewhere like that with her again tell her no cause of what she does to you all the time. Maybe then she'll learn to keep her big mouth shut and so will the other couples. Are they that bored with each other?!
I wanted to start a post on something similar, b/c what pisses me off the most is that people assume that since I am single I must be very sad and desperately looking for a husband. And I think as an "act of rebellion" I am getting less and less interested in finding someone! I mean, if it comes along, great, but I am not desperate at all.
So, there is another set of people who see I am not that desperate, actually quite satisfied with my life (except some little nerve breakdown here and there) and assume that I am not telling it all: how can I be so happy if I don't have a bofriend? Someting must be going on that I don't talk about...
And the third annoying thing is that if a single guy I am talking to/ being friendly to finds out i am single, he feels that it's his duty as a good citizien to make a move.
Sorry to hijack your pos, I needed to vent too, I guess...
i've never heard of more well-intentioned idiots in my entire life. does she not realize she's making it ten times worse? try talking to her once more and if that doesn't work, just forget it. also, next time you go to one of these functions, go straight up to whatever guy is the subject of the set up and make a joke about it, kind of like a preemptive strike so he can see how awesome and non-desperate you really are.
i swear, it's like that saying--the road to hell is paved w/ good intentions. i say in this case either avoid the road or take charge of the situation.
