Do you fall in the "underlying medical condition" category? (swine flu)

I do, and I'm stressed out. I had a bad case of whooping cough as a child, and I get a chest infection pretty much every time I get a cold. I had pneumonia in 1999, 2000, and 2005:( I missed 6 weeks of school when I got pneumonia the second time.

We've loaded the house up with daily vitamins, Airbourne, Juices, fruits & vegetables, cleaning wipes, theraflu and new thermometer. We have bottles of hand sanitizer in the cars and all over the house. I usually take a walk every night but now we are upping it to a run to try to get my lungs some good exercise.

More than anything having this stuff makes me feel more in control. I have an appointment with my doctor to figure out a plan of attack/new medication for my asthma so I'm hoping that will help allievate some of the anxiety.

The people around me aren't very concerned about swine flu. Whenever someone dies from it they are like, oh they said that person was already sick. I think they all assume that means the people had like stage 4 cancer or something.

I'm just worried(scared) about how aggressive this particular flu is and needed to talk about it.cry

Yipes gir! That would suck to be that susceptible to it :(

I've got an immune system of steel, so I'm definitely not in that category. Other than this last year, where I got a freak 4 colds in a row, I only average 1 cold a year, and before those 4, hadn't been sick in 1.5 years. I haven't had anything worse than a cold since elementary school either.

Kincali - because you have a history of respiratory problems, maybe you'd be a good candidate for the flu vaccine this year?  I'd heard they were rationing it and only allowing those 'at-risk' to receive it first, but maybe you'd qualify?

I'm still debating on taking it. I find it ironic that after I post this article hits the headlines, Who warns of severe form of swine flu

I mean no shit. I've been looking up the deaths online and the majority got pneumonia within 48hours of getting swine flu and die on a ventilator within 6 days. It moves fast, especially if you have a compromised immune system. Fun times!

Honestly, I try my best to just keep our hands clean and take vitamins, but the rest is out of my hands. My 7year old boy has had pneumonia when he was younger and that scares the crap out of me! But what helps me is not watching the news everyday listening to all the negativity that comes from there. If I did, I'd really be scared shitless, especially cause I live in CA! ha!

Just do your best to keep clean and healthy. But don't let this ruin your life. Easier said then done......I know....
