home entertainment system/ 'movie theater'?

I want to get a system that will project movies, so we can see them on a big screen. It needs cd, dvd and vhs, also a good speaker system, and the projector. Any ideas? I'm clueless about tecchnology, so I don't know whether I could get each piece and then assemble them, or whether there's a good option we could buy as a whole unit. Oh, and the smaller/more discreet the better.

My husband and I are considering buying a home theater system.  We're going to stick with a TV instead of a projector, but we did look into the idea.

From what I understand, you would buy the projector separately from the player and speakers.  You might want to check out this website to learn more about the zillion kinds of projectors there are:

The DVD/CD/MP3 player and sound system can all be bought together.  http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?type=category&id=pcmcat40200050002

I've heard a lot of good things about Bose, but Panasonic is more affordable and sounds really good.  A lot of the new players have only CD/DVD/MP3.  Panasonic has this one with a VCR:

Zenith also makes a DVD/CD/VHS.

You should have no problem buying a player and then just buying a home theater audio system. Usually you can figure out what kind of cables you'll need from looking at the boxes.

I like to read reviews of the parts I might buy.  I find epinions and cnet pretty useful.
