A friend of an acquaintance is in a terrible situation - she just lost her job, her pill-addicted husband beat her up, and she moved out. To get back at her, the husband gave their dog away to a friend of his, who lied and said the dog was neglected. Lawyers are involved and the whole deal. The husband seems to be getting away with a "disturbing the peace" charge instead of domestic violence, which is B.S. Anyway...
I want to send her some money but I don't want anyone to know where it came from. This is partly because I don't want her to think I'm a fountain of cash...she's kind of a flake, which doesn't mean she deserves to be in this situation, but I don't want her to hit me up again and I certainly don't want her scumbag addict husband to somehow find out and find me.
Sending cash through the mail is clearly not smart. A money order has a "from" name and return address. www.givinganon.org needs an email address for the recipient, which I don't have. Thanks for any suggestions.
Hmmm. This isn't super secure, but if you know when she gets home every day, you could drive by just a little bit earlier and stick it in her mailbox. Or get one of those prepaid visa gift cards?
I might be wrong, but I think a postal money order doesn't have your name on it anywhere.

I dont think you need to fill in the From part on a money order - and you dont need to put a return address on the envelope. Or make one up. Jane Doe 111 Avenue A would work just the same to have it filled in and not be suspicious.
I agree. Postal money orders is the best way to go. I got a Visa cash card from a rewards program and it was very difficult to actually spend. Apparently, stores treat it as a credit card and since most places will only process one credit card at a time, you have to pay the difference in cash.
I would go with cash in the envelope with her name on it. If she is in a tough situation she may not have the wherewithall to go to the PO and cash a money order, or may not want to, etc.
