the German worm stole my email addy

Not the one I use here, but a different addy I use posting on another board. Somehow it was hijacked and is being used to send out right-wing German spam. I am getting tons of mail delivery failure notices, especially on the weekends.

Then I got a bunch of replies from an ebay vendor saying that they got my order. I didn't order anything on ebay, nor did DH.

Last week, DH got an email from looked exactly like PayPal, asking for a credit card update. He is pretty computer aware, but this almost fooled him. He was about to send the card # when he decided to go to PayPal and check his account. Everything was up-to-date.

DH says I should just delete the ebay stuff. Anyone else had problems like this?

At work, I have been getting a lot of those mail delivery failures ones.  I know they aren't for mail I actually sent because it will be from e-mail domains I never sent anything to with subject lines I never used.  I called my company's help desk and they said to just erase it.  They said it didn't mean anything was being sent from my e-mail address even though it looked like it.  I guess they are right because if my e-mail address was being used for some mass mailing, other people would probably be replying to me. 


It might be in your case that e-mails are actually being sent, so I would look into it.

Well, we haven't had the same problem as you, but about a month ago, someone hacked into our Paypal account and got a Paypal Visa.  I guess they gave them the number instantly, because they used the Visa number to open another Paypal account and an eBay account.  On eBay they bought a laptop, some power tools and a few other things.  They then tried to use the Visa to get a Target card (which they got, but it came straight to us instead of them getting access to it online).  We also got a Lowe's card and some other random card sent to us.  The only company that allowed them instant access to start this big mess was the Paypal Visa. 


All the charges were reversed, accounts closed and all that, but what a pain in the ass.  We now have a credit protection service that is supposed to let us know whenever there are any changes to my husband's credit report.

I get spoof emails that appear to be from ebay or paypal ALL OF THE TIME. Literally, if i post, i'll get up to 10 a day. I always forward them to spoof@ebay.com, but i'm sure they never find anything about these people. Apparently it's pretty common & people must fall for it because they keep sending them out. Any reputable company won't ask you to update financial info through email. It's just irresponsible & easy to hack.
