Lindsay Lohan :(
Permalink Closed

Edit: Sorry, this was posted before and I missed the original thread. Here's the link.
previous thread

I'm sure you've all seen pictures of "the new" Lindsay, and it may have been posted before (I don't read Entertainment posts that regularly), but I wanted to share this and comment.

This is pretty heartbreaking. She was so cute before. She looked healthy and pretty and was definitely not overweight. It's like somewhere she fell into the idea that to be attractive you have to be blonde and rail thin. She looked good after she lost a little weight, but it's like she didn't know when to stop. Look at her shoulders, they're pointy.

Same thing with Nicole. Just a couple of months ago she looked so good and now it looks like she's starving herself. I hate this and I don't understand the obsession with being super skinny but it's widely accepted. I know some people are just naturally thin and can't help it, but that's not the case with either Lindsay or Nicole.

And we're so used to seeing women who are super thin that when we see someone in the media who is a normal, healthy weight, people say she's "fat," even though by normal standards she's totally acceptable. It all goes back to the overwhelming pressure that's placed on women to meet this insane beauty standard that cannot normally be achieved. I think it's so sad. And what's even sadder is that a lot of women embrace this image. In some circles, girls would say that I feel this way because I'm "fat and ugly" (as in not meeting their "standard") so I'm just jealous.

I could go on and on about this, but I'll stop now. It just makes me really sad.

agreed!

just to add- LL completely lost her curves and Jessica Simpson has been working out and losing some weight for her role as Daisy and she didn't lose her curves- she just toned up... not my observation either- it was my boyfriend's- but true.

Honestly, I do not believe that photo is real.  After seeing what photo shop can do I think that a lot of people are just trying to make money off of these doctored photos.  I know that both Lindsey and Nicole have lost a lot of weight, but they are definitely not that skinny.  If you watch Lindsey on SNL this weekend you will see that she is not that horrible - I've seen a couple of the previews and she does not look as bad as she does in that photo.

that one of lindsay definitely looks photoshoped but i did see a commercial with her for snl and she did look super skinny... like too skinny for her body frame. i mean she's probably didn't get to that weight in a healthy way.

i agree with this. also i think it is what it is. society has been bitching about unrealistic standards of beauty for the past 2 decades. not that we should just accept them, but it's a self-perpetuating cycle, and it's unfair for the media to single out these two women, when they are just as much victims of it as regular girls. if they want to pick on someone how about the studio systems that pressure girls into losing weight for roles. or the designers who only make samples in one size, and if you can't fit it, then you don't get to wear a nice fancy dress.

also i think the media really picks on these two, lindsey especially. when lindsey was curvier everyone thought her breasts were fake, now that she's downsized, everyone claims she's too skinny. the poor girl can't win.

saw this article/feature on msn this morning about the downsizing of various actresses. the photos all seem to be from actual events, so there is probably less likelihood of photoshop doctoring in them.

Here is something else for everyone to consider - About 3 years ago I was working about 70 hours a week between my day job and my bartending job.  I was eating like a pig, but because my life was so insanely hectic I ended up going from 130 pounds to 100 pound in less than 3 months.  I wasn't exercising at all, BTW.  All my friends were so worried about me they tried to do an intervention because they though I was anorexic.  Nope, I was just insanely busy and run down.  I was so run down that I passed out at my bartending job 3 times from exhaustion.  That was enough for me to realize that I needed to make a change, but in no way was my weight loss related to an eating disorder or lack of eating.  A lot of these women have the same if not worse schedules than I was living with - it wouldn't shock me if part of the weight loss had a lot to do with that as well.

I am with you on these. It is AMAZING what photoshop can do. My boyfriend is a graphic designer and for a exam in school he took a photo of my and kept the first one orginal and changed the second one. If it wasn't for the shirt then I would not have been able to tell it was me.

Their necks just look a little weird to me.

It's very sad. And I don't believe it's photoshopped because I always look at stupid celebrity pictures & she looks just as thin in all pictures from that night.

I don't think these are photo shopped either - watch some recent footage of either of them. I just saw an interview with Lindsey herself saying that yes, she is trying to lose weight (has lost 15 in one month), yes there is pressure to be thin, she is training to be thinner, but she is not anorexic. Then Nicole's stylist said every time she sees here she is thinner & she is making an effort to be thin. I don't think there is anything wrong with wanting to be thinner and doing it in a healthy manner, but I just worry that "regular" girls are trying to keep up with this image & doing it in unhealthy ways.

i want to comment on this - i read an interview (in tv guide, maybe?) with carrie what's-her-name from american idol, and she said that she keeps hearing/seeing that people are calling her fat, and she's a size 6!  i'm a 6, too, and while i don't think that i'm thin, i definitely don't think i'm fat.  but i'm sure there are people who do.

don't kid yourself that LL and NR are "doing it in a healthy way" either.  even if you quit eating completely, there is no way to get that emaciated without chemical help.

see: Olsen, Mary-Kate.

bumblebee, I don't disagree, I just think it's not fair if you get skinny, you must be doing it unhealthy. I know I had a hard time with this when I was working out 4-5 times a week & got down to my skinniest, I was not doing drugs or throwing up, or starving myself. But my family had a cow because I had never been so skinny. I would like to think that when you are working out & eating right, you don't get condemned just because you lose weight.

I also know that them coming out & saying they aren't anorexic doesn't make it so. Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen were on Oprah about a month before which ever one went into rehab denying the reports too. But, I don't want to stir the rumor mill either!!!

She looked gorgeous before the weight loss.  It's a shame she doesn't realize how bad she looks now.

drew, you are right, she was so hot in that picture you posted--now she just looks kind of blah and skinny.

laken1, you're totally right--it is not right to say that someone is unhealthy just because they are thin, thinner than they used to be--that could be due to a million different causes.  i didn't mean that to sound mean, like it might have--i only say it at all because she has some pretty well-known habits that definitely contribute to extreme weight-loss.  i feel bad for her that she is caught up in a pretty tough world at such a young age.  i wish there were more people who were really looking out for her.

ETA: i have no idea about nicole ritchie and don't include her in the above comment.  i know she has already been through rehab, so it seems likely to me that she is losing weight through some other means than drug use.  but really i have no idea.

i was thinking about nicole richie's weight loss this weekend and how she is getting married soon- and how all of my friends got scary skinny when they got married- and maybe that is a factor in this whole mess too...

just a thought

I saw Lindsay Lohan on SNL last night and I don't think she looked that bad. She was definatley skinner, but she wasn't all washed like she is in the picture. I don't know if that was a crappy pic or they tried to make her look really pale.

She didn't look like a booble head or a skeleton to me.

I was thinking the same thing.

I think both look horrible but not only because of the weight loss.  If you look at their faces(not only on these pictures) they just look sick.  I dont know if they lost the weight because theyre on drugs, puking it out, under stress, or just have busy lives. I just think its funny that theyre like best friends now and got really skinny all at the same time.  I think the real sickness of all this is that they set the standard for teenagers and what strive to look like.

I agree 100%- it is so sad...especially when you hear them saying how they don't even think they are thin, or how compared to other girls they still need to lose weight. There are just so many self image problems and I feel so bad for the kids who don't see how much better they looked when they were a few pounds heavier but were actually healthy.
