new product for my short hair...
Permalink Closed

Hi ladies -

I have really super short hair and am looking to try a new finishing product.  I currently use (and have always used) Control Paste, by aveda, but am starting to be a little unhappy with it.  I feel like it ends up looking a little wet, when what I'd like is something that gives my super fine hair texture and makes it easier to stick up/out and play with ...but something that finishes really dry, not wet at all.  Does anyone have any recommendations?  I want it to look funky and tousled...just not wet at all...

Thanks so much!

Tigi Small Talk 3-in-1 saved me from 12-year-old-boy-syndrome when my hairdresser butchered my hair - mine is pretty fine and this gave it some texture without being overwhelming.

Thanks LMonet...how did it work best for you to use it?  Before blowdrying?  After?  I love my short hair and enjoy tousling/sticking it in all directions...I just want it to look totally dry when I'm done, not like I've used Dep in it.  But still hold the look, not get all wispy and lose the chunkiness...does that make sense?

I'd blow dry it until it's about 80% dry or so, then use this as kind of a 'finisher'.  You might also like the Control Freak line from Tigi - it's geared more toward short/funky 'dos.

Great - thanks!  I wonder if either of these lines can be purchased somewhere that would take the product back if I didn't like it...?  I looked on sephora's site and didn't see either Bedhead or Tigi listed...but they're good about taking things back.

Have you ever tried aveda's Control Granules (might not be the actual name)...it's kind of a powdery consistency and it's supposed to majorly texturize the hair.  I've never tried it and am hesitant to without buying it from somewhere  that would take it back...it's $29.

Nope, I haven't tried the Aveda granules.

My Rite-Aid carries Tigi, and they have a great return policy on makeup and hair products.  Or you could always ask at a salon/beauty supply store - if they wouldn't let you return they might give you in-store credit.

Hi June,

When i had a pixie i used to use a biosilk product and i think it was called Biosilk Silk Therapy Molding Silk. It didnt make my hair look at all. I'll check this weekend to see if that's what it's called.  I have super fine hair and it didnt weigh it down. BTW, i would love to see a picture of your cut.

TiGi is supposed to be sold only in salons- but- they divert it like crazy to cheaper outlets like walgreens and walmart all the time.  be careful buying professional products from places like this- they may not even be the real product in the bottle.

You should be able to return it for a full refund from the salon or look for the product in an Ulta or Trade Secret- they also could give you advice on a product to use thats different.

on another note- i would go with a wax for your short tousled look.  dry your hair while tousling it and then put some wax in your palms, emulsify and then distribute through your hair while piecing and pulling certain parts to get the look you are after.

Thanks for the recommendations Bex and Sunshinegirl!  Sunshinegirl, I'll try to take a pic soon...I recently got it cut and it's a little different than usual, so I'm still getting used to it.  It's shorter in the back than it's ever been...I think I like it, but I'm just used to more little pieces sticking out back there...now it doesn't stick out at all in the back...cut very close to my neck.  But, it's a nice change of pace...
