Ouch! That seems a bit steep in the taxes/fees area, even for an international flight. Have you tried www.sidestep.com ? We almost always find cheaper tickets there.

The total price is not bad for a plane ticket to England, but the breakdown of that price is totally weird! I've connected in London Gatwick before and don't remember having such taxes and fees.
I am not sure it's Heathrow responsible for those fees - I've flown into Heathrow lots of times and don't remember fees/taxes that high! I hope they haven't changed it...

Heathrow taxes are the highest in Europe, unfortunately, and I think they raised them recently. I forgot to mention I'm flying on to Manchester.
So, I'll have to pay taxes for that airport as well. $180 for Heathrow airport, $60 for Manchester airport, but that is still cheaper than taking the train up from London. I wish I was connecting through Gatwick!
Thanks for the link LMonet, looks like a great website! However this flight is with BA so I'm going to go for it.
this happened to me as well when I went to England in January- ticket was 244, taxes were like 180 so that the total came to 450 or something ridiculous like that.
but what are going to do? They've got us by the balls!
