OK, so I haven't used my Banana Republic card in eons and I want to put something on it so that it looks ike I am using it...but I really don't want anything from there right now. If I went and bought something with my card and got a gift receipt for it, then retuned it (to a different Banana...) would they give me cash back or would they give me store credit? Cause if they gave me cash, I could then use that to pay off the card- giving it some activity but not costin me any money?

Sheesh, now I am confusing myself.

most stores that I know of will make you get refunded in the same way you paid for the item except walmart because they are walmart.  I don't think it will work but I don't see why you wouldn't have activity from buying and returning something.

Usually you get store credit with a gift receipt.  Not sure about banana though.

Yeah, they probably will just give you store credit.  If you have the original receipt they'll just put it back on your card.  If you wait until you get your statement from them with your purchase on it, then return w/ original receipt, they will credit your card, you will break even, and I wonder if that would count as activity since it showed up on a statement???

Hmmm, yeah I think they'll only give store credit. There goes that idea. I guess I'll just have to wait until there's something worth buying

To pull out another bit of info from my fabulous Suze Orman book...

If you just want to use it because you think you need to for your credit report that is false.  Suze actually suggests keeping cards that you have had for a very long time and cutting them up, but keeping the account open so that you have long creit history with the creditor.  Things like this count for 15% of your FICO score.

Did you know you can use your BR card at Gap and Old Navy as well? A few months ago they made them all interchangeable.

Pardon, just reread Farrahs post.  Duh, on my part.

Oh yeah, I read Suze's book and def. know about that. But I want them to raise my credit limit (to lower my utilization) and they won't do it becasue I haven't used it in a while.

I had forgotten about them taking at at Gap and ON- I can def. find something there! Actually my little brother's birthday is comining up so I can get his gift at one of them.
