my cat is breaking my heart *Update*
Permalink Closed

yesterday I noticed he's having issues with his paw, when he walks you can see he cant walk right and this is how he looks when he's in this sitting position. My husband and I already checked his paw out as much as we could and my husband was even putting some pressure on it to see if he would jerk away and he didn't. He put pressure on his whole leg and nothing.

We used to have a dog that was VERY active and would also jump up and down froom his dog house and the same thing happend to him and he was fine in a couple of days.so were thinking it might just go away in a few day. But my cat Trump is LAZY! I dont remember the last time I saw him play, hes either sleeping or just laying around. He's eating and drinking fine  and I'm thinking I should hold off from taking him to the vet until Thursday or Friday if he dosent get any better. Anything like this ever happen to your lazy cats?

*UPDATE*

Well this morning he went back to being worse, its so wierd cause yesterday he was doing much better and now hes back to worse. So I called the vet and they told me what some of you had said, jumping off the couch wrong or something minor like that. She said it can last up to a week. Sunday will be a week so I set up an appt. for Monday if he's not any better. Its just wierd that he was doing so much better yesterday and then this morning he's walking all funny and wont use it again to sit down

How old is he?  He looks just like my cat, Bianca (on my avatar).  She's pretty lazy too.  She's had random hurt paws and they've never panned out to be anything.  If he's eating and drinking fine, and otherwise acting normal, I'd hold TRY to hold off.  I'm a worry-wart, though, and I know it's hard to wait when you think there's a chance something might be wrong.  My dog has had random paw issues too.  I'm sure they've been minor sprains with him and the cat.

We have little random aches and pains, I'm sure they get them too.  Let us know how she is, okay?

funny thing, the girl that used to live next door to me had the cutest kitty that used to always sit in the window and he would hold his paw up like that.  I said to her one time that I thought that he was trying to say hi to me and she said that he had an allergy and that his paw bothered him at times because of it.  I don't know what she meant by that.  Maybe it's an allergy? He didn't seem to be in any pain.

I don't know anything about cats, but I hope your kitty gets better soon!  What a pretty cat.

Thanks girls.

Cricket- He's about 16 months and I'm hoping that its just something minor like you said. It just sucks to see him this way and try to hold off on taking him to the vet. The vet can be pretty expensive! But yes, hes still acting normal, still wanting attention and love whenever he can get it from us

Rosie- Allergies?and he used to hold his paw up because of that? how sad but how cute too! never heard that one before,.....but you never know, what if its that? I'll keep you posted on Trump, thanks again all of you.

Tati - Take a good luck at the pads and fur on the underside of the paw - maybe even use a flashlight. Does it look pinkish or reddish? That's often a sign of allergies. My parent's dog had bad allergies and it gave her red, irritated paws and they bothered the heck out of her.

My cat Natasha used to do that after we had her declawed, but she held it like that for months afterwards. The vet said it was fantom pain. It didn't actually  hurt but she remembered it hurting, if that makes any sense. Maybe you cat hurt her paw and is just having phantom pain?  Maybe you can call your vet and just ask them if they think anything is wrong. My vets office you can call and talk to a technician and they'll tell you whether or not it sounds as if something is really wrong. And it costs nothing.

I would just call the vet and tell them what's going on and see what they say - at least it will ease your mind a bit.  One of my parents cats had a similar thing going on and the vet told my mom to give her some baby aspirin for awhile (not sure of dose or frequency) to help with the pain and with any inflammation.  If it keeps persisting, it wouldn't hurt to ask about that either.  Hope  your kitty feels better soon!

I agree w/ Lmonet you should call and maybe they can give you some help. If he is eating, drinking and going to the bathroom normally then it PROBABLY isn't very serious. I would call just to make sure. Good luck and let us know what happends.

Feel better Trump!

Thanks for all the advice. he's doing much better today. I can tell it still bothers him a little but he's walking better and he's able to put it down now when hes sitting for a while. I'm sure it will just keep getting better now. But if this happens again I will call the vet the first time I see it happening, what if its allergies or something else, I'd like to know to give my baby medicine so he can feel better soon.

Trump says thank you for your concerns and good thoughts

Glad to hear he is doing better!

I know it's so frustrating when your kitty is sick - I know I always feel so helpless! Let us know what happens - I am curious so that if this ever happens to mine I will know. Give him lots of hugs & kisses (mine act like they hate it, but i know they love it).

Awww....I know nothing about kitties, but I wanted to say I'm sorry yours is hurt . If yout vet isn't too concerned, I wouldn't be as long as he's eating, etc.

My dogs sometimes get tiny stickers caught in their paw, and once, my lab actually burned all the pads on her feet; I know it is terrible to see them limp.
